No. My dog hates my bass. He's a very musical dog--he loves the piano and the violin (when it's on pitch)--but will leave the room whenever I start to play. I don't think that's a compliment--even the dogs don't like my bass playing!

Okay. I thought of another favorite train wreck. A friend's band went on tour in a tiny motor home--so tiny, in fact, that they had to put their instruments in the shower. I'm sure you can guess what happened; some idiot turned the shower on...and their instruments were ruined before anyone...

My very favorite story came from a friend of mine who had been playing bluegrass and was interested in learning to play arco. She was very new with the bow and jabbed it around wildly without getting any grip on the strings. One of her wild jabs caught the F-hole in her bass; when she tried to...

I'm thrilled to finally hear other bluegrass bassists talking about bowing...and playing fiddle tunes! At one festival my band played, I took a break with my bow. Afterwards, a bluegrass purist told me that "when you play it with the bow, it's a cello!" :)
