Who is your "Mount Rushmore" of bass?

Flea, Chris Wolstenholm (Muse), Adam Clayton (U2), and Sir Paul McCartney. I need another "Rushmore" though! Mark Stoermer (the Killers), Sting (it's possible to play and sing?!), Marcus Miller, and Matthew Tennikoff (Hillsong United) would be the other.

    What is the hottest chile?

There was a Mexican food party at my work a few months back and I wasn't able to go. Apparently, someone brought a sauce where the heat was mostly comprised of ghost peppers. So a couple days later, during my lunch, one of the guys coerced me into trying it. Not aware of its contents, I...

    Tempo issue

We throw a programmable click on our drummer's iPhone. It allows us to program the BPMs of the entire set list and he can tab through them and count us off with a subtle tap or high hat count or whatever, even nodding the beat at me or the guitarist if we are starting. He has it all in his...

How many of us GIGGING bassists use pedals?

I recently got an extended gig for an energy drink, and they want me to be effects oriented. I have six including my tuner, and the genre is spanning different types of rock, but mostly punk with a touch of Wolstenholme type overdriven tones so I deploy a few different types of drives and boosts.

Confession Time: Admit How You Are Different From The Bass Player Norm

I'm not the biggest fan of tube heads. I like the tone, but the extra weight and money just don't make it worth it to me. I think playing with a pick is fun. Yes, normally I bash playing with a pick along with fellow band mates and other bassists. I don't complain about not being able to mic...

What Boss Pedals Are In Your Setup?

I have the ODB-3. It's not an "every down" pedal (to use football terms), but every once in a while, I pull it out and love it. It is pretty harsh in the highs, but it sounds decent with the right EQ. Also, I hear you can modify it so the highs bite less, which I'll do with my next paycheck...

Am I the only bassist who thinks slap bass is lame?

If you bash on slap every now and then because you're sort of bad at it... then you'd be just like me ;) In general, I don't think it sounds preferable in most music since it creates leads out of the bass when it might sound better (as a song, not just the bass) if the bassist stays in a groove...
