Outsiders reading TB

Have you ever thought about a non-bass player coming in to TB and reading threads in, say, the Amps forum? Everyone's in there talking about their SVTs, MB800s, AE212s, D-410XLTs, DB750s and the like. Or in Basses, the 55-94s, Monarchs, TRB-5Ps, UV70s, M5Vs, etc.

They'd be sitting there thinking, "What th' ... ????"

I actually had a similar experience in another gear forum that's slightly beyond my proficiency level (studio engineering). Lots of references to alphanumeric items I'd never heard of but were rattled off as if they should be common knowledge.

I stopped reading after google got angry at me and told me to just go to guitar center and stop wasting its time.

You think they'd confuse amps with artillery of destruction? distraction, maybe, I wouldn't push it.

Everything has a make and model #, it's a product and products are sold as goods by businesses to easily discriminate (as in center in, in this regard) the taste of the customer.

Kind of like at McDonald's the meal you want is a number. It's clear and concise.

I've been reading this forum for years and I still have to Google abbreviations. With all the talk about TI flats . . . took me about a year before I realized that they had nothing to do with titanium.

Wouldn't specialist terms and vocabulary in ANY particular field of interest to a non-specialist induce much head-scratching?

Having said that, most of it goes over my head when the real tech guys start posting

Heh heh, I read the vaping thread with the same effect. I'm curious because I have a brother who wants to quit smoking, but they get into their "vaping gear" jargon as bad as the rest of us do on bass gear.Don't have a clue on 90% of what they're talking about. I guess those on that thread speak both languages fluently.
