the proper way would be to set the neck in the pocket and measure the fret distance to the bride and make sure the scale is lining up. if that looks good, from there the easiest thing would be to drill out the existing holes in the neck to glue in dowels like michael vee said and drill new holes...

the black looks much better! my sx, which was a super cheap bass to begin with, had the worse faux tort guard i've ever seen. i ended up taking a palm sander to it to make it white (had a mishap near the lower bout but i'm alright with it)

this is my pusa inspired basstar, it's some cheap tele kit that a buddy built and sent to me, the neck has a bit of a twist and it wasn't really any good as a 6 stringer but it's great like this! tuned c# g#, of course
