RANT: going ampless -> why digital? why IR?

I have both of the extremes. On one hand I have a tuner, dirt pedal, and a BDDI... ...and on the other I have a Quad Cortex, with a capture of my dirt pedal and BDDI. First off, there's a certain absurdity to using an $1800 modeller to model a $250 pedal. Second, I think if your setup is...

The original black and gold-ish bass is a Spector 5 string. When the new signature was released I remembered seeing it somewhere before. This video is a year old and I'm guessing this is a prototype. It has a solid back panel with Euro battery box and what looks like it might be the...

    SPECTOR® Owners Club

After years of watching the market, particularly the used market... Anything that's "standard", meaning 4 string PJs or 5 string DC/DC sells. Anything with HAZ, BTS or TP sells. The more maple that's in it, the faster it sells. I appreciate that they're trying new things, and that Korg is...

Does the USA make a tuner?

I recently demo'd a bunch of new Spectors and honestly, the Icon was probably my favourite. I thought it played and sounded great. I'd put it on par with the Euro Wimbish that was next to it, which I was happy to finally try because I was always worried that the Wimbish neck would be too...

I think this logic was true back in the 70s, when people were saying pre-CBS or pre-Norlin guitars sounded different. I don't think it's true in this era. I think it's been a pretty steady climb for most manufacturers since sometime in the 80s/90s. Notice brands that didn't have a CBS/Norlin...

Today’s Live Sound Stages at Festivals and Such

Played a festival last night. Backline was a GK 800RB on an Ampeg 410, DI off the head and mic off the cab. Some players swapped the DI line to a SansAmp. Four wedges across the front, plus one for the drummer. IEM were optional, but additional setup time came out of your timeslot. Most of...

When Do You Think You Are Overplaying?

My approach has been that not everyone should be busy at the same time. Guitars going crazy? I lay back and hold down the groove. Guitars strumming chords and following the changes? I start creating movement.

Do you put your effects pedals on top of your amp/cab instead of on the floor?

I put my BDDI on the amp and the pedalboard on the ground.

Band becoming LLC, paying members as contractors... Run, or okay?

I think a number of bands struggle because they don't have the money conversation early enough. It starts off fun, then money enters the equation and they don't have a plan on how to manage it.

Band becoming LLC, paying members as contractors... Run, or okay?

I'm still interested if this is the singer's first rodeo or not? If he's been in previous bands that did an LLC then I could see him thinking it's just the way to do business, although it appears he needs some lessons in leadership and communication. If he's a businessman and has experience in...
