Just picked up a "Schaefer" 4001 copy last week. It was kinda beat up, but is at the luthier now having a fret leveling/replacement and a new nut put on. From the bit I played of it, it's an amazing bass, and $3000 cheaper than a 4001. I'll take it. :)

Long time listener, first time caller. Just pulled the trigger on a Hartke XL-4 for a couple hundred bucks. I had an EGC guitar some years back and really liked it. Thought I'd jump in the bass wagon in the shallow end. Impressions forthcoming once it lands.
