Thanks for this question and insight. What does a slab board look like I took the fingerboard (pickguard) off and the bottom had the same black crinkly treatment as the top, with the exception of the three holes for knobs and jack. There was about a half inch of bare metal (aluminum?)...

Also, there's something very funky with that fingerboard. It appears to be a slab board and G&L didn't switch to slab boards until mid-1992. Could be a replacement fingerboard? What does a slab board look like. I took the fingerboard (pickguard) off and the bottom had the same black crinkly...
