    Fake MIJ Fender?

Radio silence. Inscrutable Japanese. My money still on N series MIJ cursive decals being Tokai builds.

Fender Jazz Bass, Japanse or American Vintage??

Sorry to stir up an old post, but on your concern about why this may have been offered as a Japanese Fender, when it is very clearly in AVRI 62, it was probably a mistake made on one of the serial number look ups, as the date range for the V series MIJ Fenders is 96-97. That's basically the end...

    Bassists of the '60's Club.

Greetings from Oz. Born in '71, but my 'soul' is from the '60's, I guess from listening to my parents records. Massive fan of Duck and Jamerson, but also JPJ (big Stax and Motown fan himself) and Entwistle. Really into that 'in the pocket' virtuosity - where you know how technically good the...

Fender Japan Jazz - Neck Stamp

Fender Japan Jazz - Neck Stamp

I had the same query a few months ago Fake MIJ Fender? Best as I can ascertain these are Tokai build Fenders and the numders are jsut some form of productin number - not dates. Out of interest, is yours a MIJ written in cursive on the decal?

Help Identify This CIJ Fender Bass - Pics inside. Genuine, Fake Or Modified??

No worries mate. Hope she plays well for you. Since the last post, I have seen a few other neck stamps on the interwebs in the same format and am now sure they are not date stamps in any way. I have the same printing on my pots so best guess is that we have basses made a the same factory. It...

Help Identify This CIJ Fender Bass - Pics inside. Genuine, Fake Or Modified??

Pacoroa, Yes I saw that the Heisei didn't line up nicely with your serial number, but I have seen elsewhere western style neck dates on Fenders that don't exactly line up with serial numbers so it couldn't be entirely excluded, but the gap on yours is a couple of years. One thing I wanted to...

Help Identify This CIJ Fender Bass - Pics inside. Genuine, Fake Or Modified??

For comparison These are from a N series MIJ Jazz. The 33 on my pick up cavity stamp seems to argue against being date stamps, but the 5 on both of them corresponds with the Heisei Calender year 5 being 1993 when N series were in production.

Have a look in the pup cavity and see if a similar number stamp is there, I.e. 2 digits seperated by a hyphen in black. I have been researching this from a different angle and suspect that these are the stamp formats used by Tokai Gakki. No idea what they mean though

    Fake MIJ Fender?

Very Nice bass!! I have a white MIJ P Bass as well, but a G series. Looking VERY familiar! As an afterthought I have emailed Fujigen to see what they say. Pleasantly distracting theory at least :-)

    Fake MIJ Fender?

FURTHER UPDATE So I emailed Tokai Japan, Fender Japan and Fender US. Fender US gave nothing new apart from serial number indicated 1993 etc. Fender Japan can only comment on recent manufacturing (presumably they meant post-2015). Tokai were a little more mysterious. They stated that due to...

    Fake MIJ Fender?

Thanks for the reply ChuckM. I’m sold on it being legit but I would love to hear opinions on the Tokai MIJ thing. I’ve actually emailed Tokai Japan to ask them! Also anyone have any ideas on the brown streak on the side of the neck? I have to say that it does correspond with a ‘high trafgic’...

    Fake MIJ Fender?

The silence is deafening... So I did some more nosing around. A few other posts about possible Fake MIJ Fenders showed some concerned about the cursive nature of the Made in Japan decal and the fact is was underneath the serial number. I have found this page: History of Tokai Guitar Which...
