I use GHS Bass Boomers/Short Scale: Light: .045 .060 .075 .095. I bought them online from Bass Strings Online. The owner is a TB member and the cost with shipping was $ 21.43. They are round wounds, which I prefer. There is a Ibanez Mikro forum on TB. Check it out.

I have the Ibanez Mikro and it has a 28.6" scale and sounds great. It is much lighter than my 34" Washburn and the neck is narrower than any other bass I've owned. I love the Mikro and the way it plays.

The Australian bass teacher that you are thinking about is probably George Urbaszek. You can find him on Youtube and he starts with really basic instruection. His first 4 videos are in prefect order and he is tb member. Check him out - he's great!
