What do people think of the new Violin Bass '59 model? Hofner site says it's 59 specs blended with early 60s specs. Has two toaster pickups. I'm thinking of getting one, but see no discussion of this model.

I assume the shim makes the action higher. Is it removable if I want it lower?

Congrats on a great bass. I made 2 bids on that one on Reverb and am kicking myself for not just buying it at the asking price.

Canadian shipping and duties were also my concern. Otherwise I would have jumped on that. I don't know anything about ordering from Canada to the US -- never done it before but couldn't get clear answers by googling. Looks like a fantastic bass!

This is absolutely correct. To me, turning down a standard tone knob on a bass simply makes the sound muffled and loses the percussive nature of plucking the string (if you play with a pick). With the filter system, it really can change a round wound tone to something approaching an Old School...
