The Precision Bass was great, but I vote for the Jazz Bass -- an improvement in every way. I have small hands and the P Bass neck is too much for me.

Why in the world would you add a p-bass neck to a jazz bass? One of the advantages of a jazz bass is the thinner neck. Sorry, this just doesn't make sense to me.

Right, sharp body (slab) edges. That was the original Precision Bass. Leo Fender improved the design with a contoured body, making the instrument the P Bass that we know today.

I take issue with your statement. For one thing, I own a Danelectro Longhorn, which I bought used, and a Gibson SG bass, which I bought new, so I can hardly be called an elitist. For another thing, the Gibson has a fundamental defect that two professional luthiers were unable to fix, so I speak...

If you want ridiculously over the top bass playing, check out "May I" on "Shooting at the Moon" by the late Kevin Ayers. What, you never heard of Kevin Ayers? He didn't play bass on his solo albums, but he did play bass with Soft Machine. What, you never heard of Soft Machine?

Let's not forget John "The Ox" Entwistle. In addition to being one of rock's greatest bassists, he gave us "Bass Culture," the ultimate coffee table book for bassists.
