What was your first bass guitar?

A used Samick PMB5175 Musicman clone in metallic black. Nice bass to look at but bad fretwork and disappointing sound. I traded it for a Yamaha RBX374 at some point. Which also has left the building again.

Epiphone Les Paul bass in red. I was like 12/13 years old at the time and didn't know what my favorite bass players used and didn't know anything about gear. Bought a Squier Jazz after that and loved the playability of it, but missed the sound of the humbuckers from the LP. Later bought an American made P once I started working.

...now I'm adding a Gibson bass to my arsenal again. Life is weird.

Late 80s squier II precision bass, E series MIK, the version with a slab body, no elbow or tummy contours. Body turned out to be plywood, bridge, neck and tuners were quite decent, the neck was definitely the best part. Pickup was not properly wound for noise canceling so I had to flip one half, which revealed the bar magnet. Les claypool came around with this band called primus and these songs called jerry the racecar driver and tommy the cat, you might have heard of them. So I used my soldering iron (to heat up the fret and melt the glue) and some pliers and pulled the frets out of it. The chopped and shaved parts are still around in storage. I wouldn't mind a fretless again, so someday I might paint the body and put it together again. The top horn got cracked and I sawed it off. Geddy Lee did far worse to his first P bass though.

My first own bass, bought when I was 16, was an Aria Les Paul bass from around mid/end 70s, black and shiny and with golden hardware, medium scale, exactly like this one:

Played, looked and sounded quite nicely. Hadn't I needed money to buy my 74 Fender Jazz a year later, I would not have parted with it.

Gibson-made Kalamazoo... basically just an EB-0 with a bolt-on neck. The body was some kind of composite, like masonite.

I had the same bass in blue!!! Aria Pro ii XRB-2a and I damn near took guitarists and singers eyes out.

Korean AxTech Black precision bass. Played the heck out of it. Decided already then that P-basses and myself won't be getting along.

After 1 year upgraded to Ibanez SR305DX 5 stringed bass. Still missing that bass.

It was the world renown incomparable boutique bass known as the Johnny Pro II. Bought it in the late 1970's in Germany. And through the miracle of this digital instant information age, I found it and bought it back just last week.

My first bass was an Ibanez EDB600 that I bought from a girl in highschool who had bought it for a boyfriend and then they broke up. I got it for like $250 and it was only a model year old (she purchased new on 2000 and I got it in 2001).

6 months later I purchased a 1997 Warwick Corvette standard from a friend who had just graduated, his mom was the lunch lady so while he was at college he let me do payments to his mom. Yes I handed the lunch lady 6 envelopes with $100 each within them while passing through line haha. Only bass I ever regret selling
