One thing we can hopefully agree on is that the Name G&L does not carry the weight of the names Fender and Musicman. I pretty much doubt that in twenty years the G&L's are, from a collector's view, as sought after and highly priced as vintage Fenders and Musicmans.

Youre probably right because g&ls dont have the same heritage as fender and MM in terms of famous players and endorcements. And their estetic is quite 80s which limits their appeal. But imho they make the best usa made basses based on quality and workmanship.

We often hear the phrase "Leo got it right the first time." Maybe so, but the Precision is just one of several significant basses he invented. So here's a chance to weigh in on what you think Leo's greatest creation was. (I've kept the poll simple, but you can elaborate on various specific models below. And for the indecisive, you can have two votes!)
The Precision Bass was great, but I vote for the Jazz Bass -- an improvement in every way. I have small hands and the P Bass neck is too much for me.

Nearly everytime. If I wouldn't know the story, I would suppose that the G&Ls were prior to the Musicmans and the Musicmans kind of the refined version of the L2000.
I play mostly Jazz Basses but love my Precisions and my Musicman. Sold my G&Ls. Well crafted instruments for sure, but the electronics simply didn't work for me and they don't have that unique look of the other ones.

I voted for the G&L era, I have an LB100 P bass and a JB Jazz. I have also owned a dozen or so Fenders through the years and these G&L are, to me, finer playing and sounding instruments than any of the others. The LB100 has a Jazz profile neck and is a treat to play. I also ordered both with the Empress bodies so they're both under 8lbs.

Leo who? (troll runs for cover) :chicken:

I just wish I had gotten *one* of my inventions 'right'. :help:

(although the chocolate Cool Whip was a stroke of genius... all I got was a whoopin' and had to buy Mom another bowl of Cool Whip and a can of Hershey's Syrup)
