Thanks to all you guys for taking the time to respond. After going back and playing it more, I couldn't resist and ended up taking the plunge. It's been great so far, beautiful bass, thanks again for comments guys! :D

I have played it, neck feels fairly nice, sounds interesting but good, really just wanted some other opinions. It has Bartolini MK1-5 pickups, definitely different for me. And believe me, that price is really tempting :p

I did read somewhere that there were only 150 sold in the US, although I'm not for sure that's the case. Hopefully whoever has one sees this and can give me some insight :)

Hey all! So I came across a Ibanez SR655PB today at a clearance sale, and from what little information I was able to gather it's a very solid bass, also very striking. I was wondering if anyone out there had any more information on it, and whether it was worth the price. The list is $799, but...

So then could the neck possibly be a imitation gibson neck? Or is it more likely just a bad refin?

The apparent lack of a serial number was really concerning me, it's just a combination of all these uncertainties that are making me hesitant to purchase it. I just don't know if I can bring myself to take the plunge with how uncertain the authenticity is.

So I've now found a couple other vintage EBO's with the same tuners, so maybe these are original? And the only serious worry that i have about the neck is that it is: A) not original B) Cracked/Broken does the neck appear to be original to someone with a better eye than me? haha :)

Thanks for the feedback, sounding like what I thought about the modifications is true. I was also wondering what you all thought about the price. I might be able to purchase it for around $450-$500, but I'm not familiar with the value of these basses with these kinds of mods. Can anyone help...

Hey guys, I was shopping around for a bass and I found this one, for a pretty good price. It is a 1966 Gibson EBO and its in fairly good shape, but I noticed the tuners probably aren't original. I wanted to verify that, but what really worries me is the black finish on the back of the neck...
