I bought the Dakota red P online this week. It came in the mail yesterday. The bass is perfect. Nice fretwork, neck, body, tuners. All perfect. I’m not sure I like the satin finish and the deep dark red. But that’s very subjective of course. Here it is next to a fiesta red and sonic blue cv:

I really like it. Very nice bass. Not just for the money. Just a very nice bass. I am thinking of buying another one. I don’t think it’s better or worse then my James Johnston. A bit different, although it is hard to compete with the JJ basses. I have two of the JJ’s. Upgraded the electronics...

The 40th anniversay jazz sounds a lot like my Squier VM 70s Jazz from 2014. Both have Fender designed pickups. Nice and punchy. Nothing wrong with the tone. Just a very nice jazz tone. The James Johnston is slightly different voiced. I think I like it better, but that might also has to do with...

Here is a pic of the neck. Fretboard looks very nice. I have no probleem with Indian Laural. I haven’t put any fretboard oil on it yet.

There is a little gap on the E-tuner between the headstock and the bushing. Nitpicking? :whistle:

Mine was delivered yesterday. It is (almost) flawless. Beautiful bass. :) Set it up with a low action. It plays very nice!

They should include a 50's model in the line-up... And it would be even cooler if they would make a 70's p bass with a non-blocked neck... Btw, my maple family: CV basses rule ;)

Here you are: I think Indian Laurel is fine. I would even say that it is really good looking. I treated it just once with Fender Fingerboard Remedy. It was a bit dry though when it arrived in the mail.

The white CV precision 60 on the right has a pretty dark fingerboard. CV basses are really good... ;) Hope the next generation is just as good.

Btw, both basses had some Fender fingerboard remedy on them months ago...
