In this interview (near the end), Michael lists the effects he uses, including two different octavers; the MXR bass octave deluxe, and the EHX POG family. Based on the sound, I'd say he's probably using the MXR, and maybe some other effects.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but if you're still looking for a semi-hollow bass VI, you should look at Link Removed. While it comes strung A-a, it seems perfectly possible to string it E-e, and there are some videos on youtube of it being played, and it doesn't sound half bad for its price.

For me, it's gotta be Thundercat's 6-string Ibanez artcore.

This sounds like a job for the earthquaker devices organizer. It gives you an octave up, an octave down, and a dry signal blend. There was also some sort of delay effect for when the octave voices enter, giving it a really ambient sound [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Well looking through other videos of live performances, I can see that he uses a digitech whammy, a pedal that looks like it could be a boss SYB-5, and a slightly smaller black pedal that I can't identify. You can get a good glimpse of it 18 seconds into this video

What models would you say are "inspired by" the mu-tron? How is a mu-tron or mu-tron inspired pedal different from other envelope filters?

Could anybody tell me what pedal thundercat is using in this video? It sounds absolutely awesome. While the effect is used basically throughout the entire set, one spot where it is particularly prominent and probably the most recognizable is at 27:18.
