My bass sounds dead, all the time.

I have had a cable (my favorite one at the time) be my worst enemy. With guitar, it was great. But when I plugged in into my bass rig it sounded terrible. I thought my particular bass was a dud or my amp was having issues. I went to a friends house to jam. I brought my rig. For one song, i...

musical advice to your younger self

Pick up bass sooner! You may be great at guitar but you will never have the opportunities on guitar that will come with bass. Plus, there's a billion better guitarists out there and many fewer good bassists. I started playing guitar seriously at 11 yrs old after 3 years of plucking strings and...

Is my friend a bad person?

If a man has no reason to lie and does it anyway, then he will lie about important stuff. To me, Bob sounds like a person I wouldn't want to be hanging with. Bob sounds like the kind of person that would steal your "stash" and help you look for it. This may be an exercise to see what kind of...

I need to vent. We're about to botch a gig.

This kind of stupid always happens when drugs are involved. At least in my experience.

    Is this tone even possible?

Compression was gonna be my first suggestion but I decided to read on. I also agree with your 3rd & 4th suggestion.

Songs that just don’t need to be covered...

The Beatles - Helter Skelter. I couldnt imagine ANY band doing that song any justice. I know Motley Crue re-did it but they rewrote it to fit their style. They butchered the original intent of the song. They made it melodic and orderly. The original wasnt.

Throw it all away, burn it down. I hate music.

I am there now. When my friends or family ask about my bands or music, my usual response is, "I haven't played an inspired note since September 2016." My band broke up, my health took a downturn and I am really not much into music right now. I have taken up photography. I dont photograph...

What was your first giggable bass amp/rig? Share some memories.

My first real purpose bought bass rig was a Sound Gear active 4 string bass (cheapest model), Crate B200 Xt bass head with a 2x15" Bass cab (dont remember brand and most likely a Pawn Shop special). Barely capable of keeping up at band practice but once it was mic'd up at a show, I thumped it.

Weirdest, incongruous headliner/opener shows(but not necessarily bad)

Queensryche opened for Metallica. Operation Mindcrime and ...And Justice For All tour. Today it would be ok but back then, Metallica were still thrash metal...at least in reputation of the time.

Why did you quit a band?

One band, I didn't like being the only consistent member. I played my part, showed up and did my job. Others either partied too much (sniff sniff) or couldn't learn their parts and looked to me for guidance even though we joined the band on same day. Plus I was the only one with a vehicle that...

    Are DJs Musicians?

If the DJ writes and creates music, then yes but not during a "DJ" performance if he stands there and presses PLAY. But if he just patches samples from other's work and calls it his creation, he is just a software editor. Anyone can play a song for a crowd.

Playing for free as "good marketing"?

Well since it went so well this year, why dont you play for free all the time? Is your band worth a paycheck? If not, then do that. If so, say no. I see your stance is no, just saying that they must be rolling in the dough to be giving up pay. Do you think they could get a "pro" sub to play for...
