Looking for Comparison Between MM Stingray and MM Sterling...

I did. He asked about sound and mentioned he’s sure there are differences in feel. Thought I’d give thoughts on the feel as well since after that, his question gets a little vague as he also seems to disregard the different EQ’s which contribute to the sound as the 2-band versions of either have...

Looking for Comparison Between MM Stingray and MM Sterling...

I noticed you mentioned “feel” and I see someone addressed this, but I can second the fact that the playing experience is different. When I was shopping for my Stingray, I tried a lot, and noticed the Sterlings felt more like jazz basses due to the narrower nut. The US stingray feels very...

    Ear Training Advice

I think one of the best things you can do in this instance is enroll at your local community college and spend the couple hundred bucks to take ear training classes (it was called Aural Perception when I went). One of the most useful courses I’ve ever attended. I also took music theory, piano...

Gain pedal for bass (from what I own as a guitar player)

Check out the 4 on the Floor by Genzler. Incredible.

    Reverse PJ midrange basses?

Maybe I got a lemon, who knows. I own a 24 EBMM Stingray Special and it’s miles better than the Spector (as to be expected at almost 3x the price). The Spector Euro series is pretty amazing, but my experience with their MIK stuff left a bad taste in my mouth. It was more expensive and lower...

    Reverse PJ midrange basses?

I think they’re good, but they really shouldn’t cost more than $799. They’re insanely overpriced at $1200+. Mine (2023 NS Pulse) was definitely gorgeous and played very well, but the Tone Pump Jr preamp with the EMG pups was underwhelming. The fretwork was decent, but not great. The fingerboard...

    Reverse PJ midrange basses?

Terrible in this case means the first one I got had pots that didn’t function installed from the factory. The second I got after I returned the first had the sound completely cut off when the blend knob was in the center (50/50 blended) position, but full sound at either end. Lots of hum and...

    Reverse PJ midrange basses?

Charvel PJ: great build quality, great pickups, TERRIBLE preamp and electronics. (Mine anyway) Spector NS Pulse: great pickups, great aesthetics, decent preamp, Questionable build quality (mine anyway). I think the Charvel with a preamp upgrade would be THE best bang for your buck.

    Small Compressor

For compressors, I’ve owned the Empress Bass Compressor and a few others. I didn’t really gel with the Empress. Ended up with a Keeley Bassist and really loved it; very easy to find a good setting for an all around sound. The Empress had more control, but I personally found it overwhelming and...

Waaaaaaaay better explanation than what I gave! 🤣

NAD - Blackstar Unity ACT250 and Darkglass B7K

4 cable method with the pedals he’s using will basically allow some of the line 6 effects to go into the punchline before the power amp, some bypass the punchline and go directly to power amp. Basically a way of using a multi-fx unit in a more flexible way.

One thing I’ve learned is get this up off the floor. It couples really easily and can get really boomy. Get it up off the floor and it’s perfect.

Upgrade from Phil Jones Bass sound

Genzler Magellan. I started using their preamp, freaking amazing!!! No kidding, check out Genzler. You want transparent, punchy, control? Genzler. I’ve never had a better bass tone in my life.

    Genzler Magellan Preamp Review

Yeah, it’s me… :) after reading the explanation above a doing a quick google search, adding 16db of gain to an input seems to be a great way to end up with hiss. I feel dumb. I agree about the pre being one of the best bass-related purchases I’ve made. This is coming from an Origin Effects...
