    Graphic EQ Settings - question

As a side note, every single person who has pretty looking curves in their EQ is doing the adjustments with their eyes, not with their ears. Which is, as you might have guessed, totally wrong way to use EQ. Each knob is unique and individual, treat them as such.

    Drop C songs?

If you're playing along recorded music, consider buying a detune pedal. Really helps you extend your repertoire without constant tuning and/or switching instruments. I have all my basses mostly in standard E tuning and I can switch quickly between E and drop-D. I'm thinking of getting D-tuners...

Bad buzz from a restring of the same strings

The neck does get stressed when the tension suddenly changes, that's no myth. But on the other hand, the wood should be able to take it just fine so it should be a non-issue. If the neck cracks, it's very likely that it's really, really old, poor quality and/or already damaged (e.g. hairline...

    Style On Stage....Does It Matter?

Style on stage DOES matter, no matter what people say. When you're on stage, people will judge you by how you dress, period. There are, however, multiple ways to perceive different outfits. I'll give a few examples: 1. Matching identical suits - Actually looks silly and in most cases it's...

Should a drummer be expected to count back in after a pause?

Count-ins can make the whole band sound amateurish from the audience point of view so the less counting, the better. If your band plays with a click you could get yourself a wireless in-ear monitoring and have some click there. Otherwise just practice, practice and practice more. And yes, you...

to strap lock or not to strap lock...

I use rubber washers, they work wonders and require no tools or modifications. Only downside is that removing the strap is a bit more difficult, especially if the washer sits tight around the strap button. I never remove the strap, though, as my instruments fit in their bags/cases nicely with...

    Just bought my first mac

Logic IS copy protected, it's tied to an Apple ID and pirated versions cannot be updated normally. Older 9 and 8 versions had activation keys, 7 had an USB dongle. Sure, the protection is not very aggressive but then again the app is cheap enough not to pirate for most serious users. And Apple...

    Just bought my first mac

GarageBand is amazing, especially for the price. So is Logic Pro X. The nice thing is, Logic Pro can import GarageBand session files so you can start with GB and move on to Logic when you reach GB's limits. If you decide to get an interface, just make sure it's Core Audio compatible. Then all...

First time bassist, hands too small

Some basses have thicker necks than others. What do you have? Ibanez has nice thin necks and they're very easy to play so if you have something with thick neck, it could just be that. Could also be that your hands are not used to the kind of stretch that guitar/bass playing requires. There's...

    Hardware Effect: Bass Mutes

I've just cut myself a piece of plastic foam which I can pretty easily slide under the strings. Works like a charm and costs nothing. Goes in the same category than rubber washers as strap locks; they cost next to nothing and work perfectly.

Regarding hanging instruments on the wall, what's the best wall for metal?

Tuning 6 string bass to EBGDAE

You should definitely take a look at the Bass VI. It's basically a short scale 6-string bass tuned like a guitar, only an octave lower. Could be just the thing you want. Could be not. I know I have a GAS for one. Or two. Invalid Link Removed

(UPDATE) One of my songs got ripped off and is being used for cell phone commercial

I fully understand the need and desire to get paid for commercial work. That's how the world works; you do stuff that benefits somebody else end that somebody else rewards you. In this case, however, I see a slight ideological problem. You see, the original version here is distributed under...
