Why is one of my basses so much more difficult to play?

I don't know if it affects anyone else, but when I play my stingray I tend to pluck closer to the bridge than I do with a P or J. I pluck very aggressively and really dig into the string and tend to hit my pups if I'm plucking directly over them. As a result, i have to play closer to the bridge...

Favorite colors matching on P bass?

But for real, I'm a big fan of natural or white bodies, maple or roasted maple neck/finger board, and black pickguard

Favorite colors matching on P bass?

If it's not 3-tone burst and tort guard then don't bother purchasing

    Broke a string today.....

After 2 1/2 years i broke my first bass string. It was the G string on my Squire 5 string. I was tuning up a half step from drop A (A, E, A, D, G) to drop A# (A#, F, A#, D#, G#). I was on the last string and as soon as I got it to G# the inner core of the string snapped right beneath the tuning...

Massive majority of ya'll said truss rod relief so I went ahead and loosened the truss rod about 1/2 a turn and lowered the saddles and that seems to have done the trick. There is still some ringing here and there, but I think every bass does ring from the frets from time to time, at least mine...

Here are photos of the nut and string height at the first fret, string height at the 20th fret, and the neck. I'm beginning to suspect the nut more and more. It seems like a cheap plastic one which is disappointing. I may replace the nut or try to add some material to make it taller. Some one...

They buzz at 1 and 2 and are good until about 10-14. I know everyone is gonna jump on the 'Truss rod adjustment' tip, but the neck is perfectly straight. If anything it bows in the OTHER direction. I'll add photos when I get home from work. I did look at the nut and it seems fine to me. Like I...

I use EB Power Slinky's (55-110) which I've never had a problem with. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings are only tuned a full step down so it shouldn't be an issue.

I just bought an Ibanez SR500 because I played a SR300E a couple weeks ago and I really liked the tone, but wanted a bit more quality. I play almost exclusively fender, so I was excited to start getting away from the fender tone I've grown used to. My local GC had the Ibby so I went in and...

    Dedicated Instruments for tunings

All of my basses are tuned differently (Drop C#, Drop C, Drop B, and my 5 string is Drop A, and my acoustic is standard. To avoid floppy strings consider getting higher gauge strings, at least for your lowest string. The higher tension should keep the string(s) from getting too floppy. I use...
