Are there rounds that need breaking in?

This might be fine for guitar strings and it might be an interesting experiment for bass strings. I can think of three possible issues: First, Bass strings exert a lot more tension over a longer neck. Tuning sharp might cause bowing and truss rod problems. (Side bar: When changing bass...

Slap: I get the THUMP, but don't understand how to get the best POP

There is a ton of free video training on the Internet! Type "beginner slap bass lessons" into your favorite Internet search engine and go to the videos. There will be hundreds or even thousands. The challenge will be sifting through them and deciding where to start. Mark J. Smith of...

The merit of "thin wirewound strings"

Thanks for the link. I have tried a lot of different strings over the past few years. My current preference is Dunlop Super Bright Nickel. I like the sound. They have slightly less tension, and nickel is easier on the finger tips. But I always liked Entwistle's tone so for the price I will...

The merit of "thin wirewound strings"

John Entwistle was a big influence growing up. Can you please provide the background story on your second sentence? I might have to give these strings a go as an experiment.

    Is this true?

I heard the same thing about James Jamerson, but not about John Entwistle. I also heard Chris Squire had his strings changed after every Yes concert.

    Is this true?

There is no "correct" answer. It depends on what you are trying to express through your music. For aggressive slap or metal, nothing beats a fresh set of steel round wounds. For Motown or blues, well aged flat wounds might be what you want. To each his or her own. Experimenting with various...

Bad ad reports: popups, screen takeovers, ads with sound etc. spring 2026

I concur. I never have problems with unwanted ads or pop ups with Brave. However, there are a few sites where you must disable Brave Shields (i.e. the built in pop up blocker) to fully function.

Flipping a right handed for a lefty

I came up with a third problem. I have a Fender Jazz. I sat in a chair and flipped it over. The volume and tone controls were directly under where I wanted to rest the forearm of my plucking hand on the body of the instrument. So, overall it will be very awkward playing in that orientation...

Flipping a right handed for a lefty

I thought of a second problem with flipping a right handed bass with a classic Fender Precision or Jazz body: The cutouts are asymmetric. You will have problems reaching above the 12th fret with your fretting hand.

Flipping a right handed for a lefty

Replacing the nut and adjusting the intonation of the bridge saddles should not be that difficult. However we can't tell whether the result will be a playable instrument from the information provided. In particular is the body latterly symmetric or is it asymmetric like a Fender Precision or...

I Need a Little Advice for a Minor Repair

Follow Up: I would like to thank everyone for responding. I went with a combination of flat toothpicks + Titebond Wood Glue + longer screw. Everything seems nice and snug. If my fix doesn't hold I will take it to a luthier with a proper workshop for repair. Love this forum!

I Need a Little Advice for a Minor Repair

I will first have a go at using a toothpick so I don't have to redrill the hole. Thank you.
