Have you ever needed your back up?

Sort of kind of but not really. I use my backup bass on outdoor gigs and leave the good bass in it's case on the stage. Indoors, whenever space permits, I do have the backup with me. Sometimes there's simply no room for it on a cramped stage. Heck I've been on stages where there wasn't room for...

This is a long time local bassists rig, what is going on here

Try getting that bad boy into a Honda Civic!! But yeah, we used to see all sorts of stuff like that back in the day, when bassists were also weight lifters.....

    S1 switch ?

I too have an American Series Jazz Bass, 2004. The difference is not subtle at all. Very different sound, and volume. I use the S-1 switch to get close to the P-Bass thump when needed. Sometimes I use it just for a volume boost. Usually it's in the "out" position, or normal. I have heard of the...

The secret to playing with a lighter touch

I find arthritis works well too. But seriously, the best way I've found to keep a light touch is to turn the amp up really loud. Then your forced to have a light touch or you'll drown out the guitars.....which come to think about it may not be such a bad thing.....

    Canadian-isms

Let me re-phrase that. Excluding Mexico of course

    Canadian-isms

Ah Canada, the home of the great guitar company that makes more guitars on North American soil than all others--Godin.

    Canadian-isms

American's call it "Kraft Macaroni and Cheese" We Canadians call it "Kraft Dinner" or just "KD". Add a hotdog or two and we call it College Cuisine. But the American's have it right--in no way should KD be considered "dinner". I still love the awful stuff though--once in a while after a gig I...

    Bad intonation fix?

I'll agree that the intonation on a big string doesn't need to be spot on at the 24th fret. But you have bad intonation further down towards the normal playing range. Your fretted note is too sharp, therefore the string is too short. Lengthen the overall length of the string by moving the saddle...

    Weird Truss Rod Nut Issue

Watcha got right there is called a castellated nut. And a damaged one at that. It may take some doing to get it out. Worst case scenario, a saw blade on a dremel, at parallel to the neck/fretboard joint, saw right through the wood and cut a slot into the nut so you can remove it with a flat...

    Let's talk floor monitors

We use a 300W @ 2 Ohm mono power amp, a Fender M300. Nice thing about this amp is that it has three notch filters for wringing out feedback. In a pinch I have used it as a bass power amp and even as a PA vocals power amp. It's a little heavy in the rack, but I can't seem to kill it. For monitors...

The pickups only work if I'm touching the pots with my fingers ..help please !!!

Could be a bad pot. Hand pressure pushes on the wafer, making contact. Try running a temporary jumper wire right from the hot wire of the pickup to the "tip" solder lug on the output jack. Might as try the same thing on the cold side if that doesn't shed light on the problem.

    What makes a good bassist?

You're a good bassist when other musicians want to play with you, when you see the people on the dance floor rockin' out, when those that aren't dancing tap their feet and applaud at the end of a song, when you are the one that saves the band's bacon cuz you're the one with spare GUITAR strings...

    Help with replacement neck

First measure the width of the neck pocket on your Greco. Standard Precision neck pocket dimensions are 2.5" wide, 5/8" deep and 3.875" long. The Jazz Bass and the Precision Bass both use the same neck pocket routing for a rounded heel. The Telecaster bass does not, it has a square heel like a...
