Not a big fan of Bose, but the QC15s seem to work quite well.

I spent about a year in the '80s gigging 4001s using RoS. Neck pickup into a MM 150 and MM 2x12 and bridge pickup into a Fender Bassman 10. Sounded brilliant, but to be honest the forearm/no contour problem defeated me and I went back to 4000s.

I only ever took a second bass to "important" gigs. Kind of gigs where there was actually a "promoter" who could get us more/better gigs. I never actually needed one. I broke two strings in the 30 years I was gigging regularly. Both times the adrenalin rush was so exciting I still remember them...

I admire you. I always thought I should like Tru Bass, and I tried them on and off for about 25 years on so many basses. Always hated them. A few months ago on a visit to London I very briefly tried a fretless semi with them and it sounded pretty fantastic. Whatever you do, don't unwrap them...

I love lots of basses, including a couple that are no longer with me (a Fender and a Gibson, weirdly). But the best bass I've ever played (feel, playability, sound, looks) is the 4005 I bought at the start of 1978, and still have. It records beautifully, and at a gig it's the last thing you have...

I understand the problem. In that case, I'd say go for it. If you don't fall for it, and you can't get your money back, I reckon you could sell it locally for a tiny profit to someone not willing to take the risk. I would recommend buying the case with it. I got to play three when I bought...
