Why can't I get my Rickenbacker 4003s to stop rattling?

I have the same issue (and more) with a brand new 4003. I checked all avenues of evaluation (won’t detail them here... I have in previous posts). According to one pro luthier who looked it over, the frets are fine. He made sure the nut was shaped properly. Failed to have him evaluate for a hump...

    Rickenbacker: Detecting warp/hump/s-curve etc

Just wanted to provide an unsolicited update/followup to this issue. At the moment, I seem to have subdued the rattling and "back buzzing" for the most part by using higher tension strings (GHS Pressurewound Medium-Light) and a set up to relief specs that you would typically associate with your...

    Rickenbacker: Detecting warp/hump/s-curve etc

Some of the chorded-note buzzing decreased a bit when I leaned forward. Some of the rattle's still there though. None of the hardware is loose. That's one of the first things I checked. I think the reality is that I just got one with a week neck. Bad luck of the draw. I may still pursue the...

    Rickenbacker: Detecting warp/hump/s-curve etc

I have my doubts that this is a nut issue... at least in terms of height. I’ve tried putting a piece of paper on the slot under the string, and this doesn’t help. I’ve also placed a capo on the first fret and the buzzing is the same. Also, I’m not digging in there as hard as you might think...

    Rickenbacker: Detecting warp/hump/s-curve etc

Still not confident that I’ve diagnosed the issue properly. I don’t really trust my own eyes on this one. I’ve taken it to a luthier, but he didn’t notice anything at the time. He worked on the nut a bit to make sure the slots were at the correct height (slightly on the higher side). I would...

    Rickenbacker: Detecting warp/hump/s-curve etc

Thanks. However, I'm pretty certain I have an S-curve going on here. It's actually pretty obvious when sighting down the side of the neck from the bridge. Just awful. It's still less than a year old, so I may push this to Ric as a warranty issue (had problems from the beginning)... won't count...

    Rickenbacker: Detecting warp/hump/s-curve etc

I have a suspicion that my 2018 Rickenbacker may have a a hump or s-curve, or possibly a high fret.... what methods are there to diagnose an issue like this? Thanks.

Horrible A String Rattle - tried everything

Thanks. I’ll check out these procedures and see if they have any effect. I threw the topic out to the Ric community over at rickresource.com and someone mentioned the saddle issue as well. Specifically, he mentioned that the Ric saddles are flat bottomed while the bridge itself is radiused so...

Horrible A String Rattle - tried everything

I don't have the strap on it at the moment. The post is all that's on there and it's not rattling. The tuning paddles are all secure and not rattling. The fret buzz happens on fretted notes as well, but it's even more audible when plucking the open string. The rattle can't really be heard...

Horrible A String Rattle - tried everything

Another option, of course, is that I simply learn to live with it and adapt a far lighter touch. I don't dig in as it is, but I suppose lightening up wouldn't hurt it general. The Ric sound is often attributed to a bit of grit, so I can see it a positive in that regard.

Horrible A String Rattle - tried everything

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to respond, anyway. I really appreciate it. One more thing.... I tried many different sets of strings to rule that out as well.

Horrible A String Rattle - tried everything

Oh... I now understand your suggestions. Sorry I didn't notice sooner. The rattle is heard when the bass isn't plugged in... it's not buzz. The string is vibrating heavily on the fretboard.

I want to also add that I made sure there were no twists in the string I will give your steps a try. Thank you.

Horrible A String Rattle - tried everything

Brand new Rickenbacker 4003 The A string only (open and first few frets) rattles horribly and is unexplainable. Here's what I've tried: Nut height - not low - about .006 - was higher with same rattle Truss Rod/Relief - .004 bass side; .003 treble - was set up with much more relief with same...

Enlarging Tuner Holes... Just a bit

Putting together a Warmoth Deluxe 5 They only drill for Scahller BML (17mm) I have Hipshot Ultralite 1/2 tuners; fit 17.4625 mm To me, it seems to be such a small difference that wrapping sandpaper around a thick marker or ratchet sockets to enlarge the holes shouldn't be an issue. I don't...
