I've had the 400+ for one week, bought and compared it to my SVT-CL. While the Mesa was nice, had a good Tube tone , I got much more out of the SVT , Tone wise and Power wise , Plus replacing 12 tubes VS 6 in the Peggy was a no brainer , I took the Mesa Back ... But to each there own!

+1 ! = I've had everything Gk makes , And I found the 1001 to be the most "sterile" sounding of the RB's , the 700-II is my fav because you get all GK is known for , and its the Warmest sounding of the bunch , The 1001 had some noticable extra power , but its pushing those GK's that gives you...

You can find a Used 700Rb-II for cheaper than a Used 800 , and have more tonal control , That ampeg is too new to be as tried and true as the GKs

I just tried a sansamp Bass DI - it didn't do it, maybe cuz i got low output barts , just tried a Marshall Govnor , even did the C22 mod ( which made it way coller/better ) , and while the Marshall makes for a good narly distortion, it wasn't "that ^^ " sound, and ya its definately a Jazz ...
