    Should I switch slap styles?

I agree with learning both ways. There are benefits to each. I personally slap with my thumb facing upwards akin to Marcus Miller etc. I feel like that allows me to easily transition into double thumbing if I want to throw it in. It doesn't mean that you can't double thumb if you have your thumb...

What made you become a bassist? How did yo u get into it?

I wanted to make a band and was playing trumpet but it didn't work very well with what we wanted to play. Instead I decided to take up the bass because there was no one playing bass at the time. It ended up being a bit of a competition between me and the vocalist who also wanted to be the bass...

Why do you own more then one bass?

I upgraded my bass and just didn't get rid of the old one. I was initially going to have it as a dedicated tenor bass, but now its back to standard tuning. It almost gets more play time than my new bass though because its usually closer to me if I'm sitting in the lounge.

    What is Alain playing here?

An MF acoustic bass. Maybe this one? http://www.mf.qc.ca/Guitar_Bass_Engl.html

    Markus Miller's Latest Post

They have claim to it because that's how the arrangements went ahead I guess. Had the bass not been stolen it would have gone to the family after Jaco died. Robert recognised that it was a family treasure and in good faith he said that it would be relinquished to the family whenever they wanted...

    Stuart Zender Slapping technique

I think I may do a similar thing, but I don't have my pinky continually planted on the body. Its just when I come down with the thumb I'll stabilise my hand on the body with my pinky and other fingers. Uriah Duffy does it too. Uriah Duffy - NAMM 2012 - YouTube

    NBD!!! ESP Amaze Deluxe

This is the new bass I picked up today, an ESP Amaze Deluxe which looks and sounds killin'. It's got Seymour Duncan pickups, an ESP 3-band active eq, Gotoh tuners and bridge. Not sure what strings it came with. I can't really find all that much information about them though or heard much from...

'If only it had a maple board, id be all over it'

I remember Marcus Miller saying he liked maple because it looked cool and everyone else had a brown fret board

The Loch Ness Monster Of Bass

I personally think this is a damn cool looking bass. Would love to hear how it sounds

    Your Signature Bass?

I'm not sure if it really counts as my own signature bass because it is already someone else's. But I'd have a white Marcus Miller bass with a maple neck that has black inlays and binding. Maybe even a painted white neck reminiscent of Larry Graham's bass.

Slap style with a six string

Wider spacing would definitely make it easier, but it's not impossible on the narrower spacing. Here's another bassist that can slap proficiently on a six-string. YouTube - ‪Tetsuo Sakurai BASS SOLO‬‏

    Slap bass poll

I see a lot of hating on slap bass as well as a lot of praise and I was just curious to see a generalised view. I just want to see what proportion of people do like it, and what proportion don't like it. No other options just these two, on a balance, you have to choose. If you like slap bass but...

I can double thumb... what now?

You said you haven't been playing that long so don't worry if you don't know how to apply your newly learnt techniques yet. As you get better and expand your musical knowledge it will come naturally. Practice everything else, practice scales, learn rudiments, transcribe songs, listen to lots and...

Who's the best bassist in the world?

Marcus Miller can do anything, he has slap chops up there with Victor Wooten, but he pulls it back to play simple and groove and thats the reason he got plenty of gigs. His fretless playing is pretty awesome as well. I think Marcus is the worlds best 'musician' since he can compose, produce and...
