I am a disturbed individual and have disposed of what disposable income I have buying basses. I likely will never play them all. Don't hate me. I love designs. Different tones, woods, strings, 4s, 5s, boutique basses, customs, classics, fretless jobs, cheap thumpers... I'm all in. They range in quality from a Mark King Alembic to a Curbow 4. I would take them all out and just sit them around the house but I have a wife.

Why do you own more then one bass?

I upgraded my bass and just didn't get rid of the old one. I was initially going to have it as a dedicated tenor bass, but now its back to standard tuning. It almost gets more play time than my new bass though because its usually closer to me if I'm sitting in the lounge.

I shouldn't think that a mere 10 basses indicates any sort of problem...just my professional opinion FWIW.. Nice and quite diverse collection! And very organized. Maybe that's the problem!

I have a few more instruments scattered about. I have one bass at my parents house. A couple that I built are on tour with a friends band.
Safer than motorcycles, cheaper than cars and less trouble than women. A harem of basses, indeed!

My Tobias Growler because I always wanyed one and I found a nice used one last year.
GWB35 because I love the neck on this bass. And it's my fretless.
Elrick Evo 5 because I had the monry to buy a really phenomenal bass for once in my life.
And most recently a MIM Fender Jazz FSR because I wanted something more standard and passive and when I started playing this bass I couldn't put it down.
So, all that, and why the hell not!?!?

I currently own two Squire VM Jazz Bass's; a fretless 'Jaco'-esq sunburst and the 1970 maple body/maple board job. Both are excellent instruments (regardless of the price in my opinion, which is cheap in any case). The difference is fairly clear between the tone and playability of a fretted compared to a fretless - which I love, its a lovely bass. My next bass will be a Stirling Ray 4. I like MM-style bass' and want an active bass to compliment the other 2 passive bass's. There after I can see me getting a nice bog-standard Precision and that will be my needs met for the time being.
I own 20 basses.... Each a different personality, sound, feel, story. Kinda like asking why own more than one pair of shoes.
I really like different sounding basses. I usually play 2-3 basses per gig and even practices.
Tonight played an 8 string fretless, geddy jazz and fretless jazz. Very wide range of sounds. It's fun.

One is my first ever four string, one is my first ever five string and the other is my custom 5 string. I use the 5's all the time and take the custom as my main and the other as my backup to gigs
