    So it's a 1964, except...

I have one of Jaco's Jazz Basses. The body has been replaced...and so has the neck, but it occupies the same space. - Steve

    Henry Strzelecki’s modded ‘72 Jazz

In all of the photos of Henry I've seen from the 1960's he's playing a Fender Precision Bass. He used other basses in the 70s and 80s. Perhaps it's the same one he's playing with Chet Atkins in this live performance from 1964. Stay tuned for the bass solo at 1:28! - Steve

    Paul McCartney's Fender Jazz Bass

That’s interesting because the right-handed Fender Jazz Bass that I posted above looked like it had Chromes as well, and that bass was obviously restrung left-handed at some point for Paul to use for himself. - Steve

First time putting tapes on my SRH500F

I have these strings on my SRH500F and I had no issues installing them. I think they really suit this bass! - Steve

    D'Addario XS Bass Strings (New)

Mine still sound the same as when I installed them last October. I do notice a slight discoloration in the area where I pluck the strings, but no change in performance. I do tend to rotate my electric basses so I’m not always playing this one, but I’ve never had an uncoated set that lasted this...

How Many Live Gigs Did You Play in 2025?

Sorry I'm late to this thread! In 2025 I played a total of 130 gigs which is on par with the past few years (135 in 2025, 132 in 2023 and 138 in 2022). They were a fairly even mix of upright bass and electric bass gigs and some were a lot of fun including: The Suncoast Jazz Festival where I...

    Paul McCartney's Fender Jazz Bass

Last weekend I visited the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the new Wings exhibit has three of Paul's basses on display, a Yamaha BB1200 (the one that wasn't donated to a charity auction), the Kay Jazz Special that he played in the "Ebony & Ivory" video, and the right-handed Fender Jazz...

    D'Addario XS Bass Strings (New)

I realize that sounds like a contradiction, so I'll elaborate: The XS strings are a touch smoother when compared directly with the NYXL strings, but not enough to where I would know they were coated strings based on only their feel, sound, or appearance. I don't think there is significantly...

Double Bass Recommendations Wanted: Wireless from Instrument to Amp

I've stopped using a a wireless with my double bass. My Line 6 went bad due to the fragile mini-USB charging port (a common issue it seems) so I went with the Fender Telepath system which works great with electric bass but tends to distort when I use it with the double bass, even when I set the...

New Daddario XS coated. Don't waste your money.

My experience is pretty different. When I switched from NYXL to the new XS string I didn’t feel I had lost anything in terms of brightness. I prefer them over the Elixirs I tried which sounded muted to me. - Steve

    D'Addario XS Bass Strings (New)

I got to beta-test these strings and I really like them. They sound and feel like uncoated strings but last a lot longer. They are not quite as smooth as the Elixir strings I tried years ago, but they sound better (less muted) and I don't have the grounding noise issue I did with the Elixirs...
