    Markbass Micromark 801 Opinions?

Sorry, I'm not a regular on this forum. What was the question? I'm very happy with the 801 - not only does it sound great at rehearsals, it also works well as as stage monitor for my ampless guitar set up, sounds great as an acoustic guitar amp and sounds good with my Yamaha keyboard. I had no...

    Tip the sound tech?

The last gig I played where there was a really good sound guy, I understand the organizers paid him about EUR 175 for a few hours work. While the band put in far more time on rehearsals and practice than the sound guy, we were paid nothing. I don't really understand the social pressure to tip...

Bass player's role in the band

A good guitarist can generally handle both lead and rhythm (like lots of trios), but if you are covering a song that has chords accompanying the lead, the song can sound pretty lifeless without the background coloring and volume provided by guitar, keyboard or vocals. It's not a question of...

Are you a plug in and play bassist?

Yep, plug and play here. Bass->PA, no pedals, basta. I wish guitar were as easy.

Poll - do you bring your amp and cab to each rehearsal?

For rehearsals, I don't care. If there's an amp available, I'll use that. Otherwise I'll bring my Mini Mark 801. For gigs, I always go straight to PA and don't use an amp. In the apartment I use a headphone amp.

Help me to be heard in a gig haha!

What kind of places will you be playing? For restaurants and such you'll probably need an amp, for bigger stages, not so much. i had maybe 15 gigs this year, and didn't need an amp for a single one. PA worked perfectly FOH, but sometimes I had problems hearing myself in the stage monitor.

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

Well, we had the gig and the results were mixed. The guitar went into its own input through a pedal with direct out. Nothing special, but it sounded ok. I had no control over volume, which was a bit unnerving. The acoustics in the church were a major issue - people in the front could hear us...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

Some background: We're playing 10 songs in a huge gothic church. Bass, electric guitar, keyboard, cajon & snare drum plus four singers. There is a single electrical outlet for the whole sound system. 300-800 guests are expected. I'm playing rhythm and lead guitar on only one song - Stairway to...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

A nest of angry bees is definitely not the sound I want. ;) I can't really test any of this until our general rehearsal on Wednesday. Plan A is to piggyback the bass channel, Plan B is use line out from my multieffect pedal to a separate channel on the mixer, Plan C would be to mic a small...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

Thanks for all the suggestions. There are a lot of factors involved in this, so I'm shooting for the simplest solution that's acceptable soundwise. Goatrope suggested this chain: Guitar/bass-> multieffect pedal with mute function -> Boss LS-2 -> DI box -> PA I can run the bass through this...

Good but reasonably priced DI ?

At most of the gigs I've played this year, we had professional sound guys setting everything up. Just for fun, I noted the DI boxes the different venues used. So recently I've played through these DI boxes: Radial Engineering SB-1 €95 Radial Engineering JDI €277 LD Systems LDI 02 €45...

Also bringing a guitar to a bass gig - can I just run it through my bass DI?

I have a gig next week where I need to bring an electric guitar in addition to my bass. 90% of my play time will be on bass, but about 10% of the gig will be on guitar. I will probably have what feels like 10 seconds to put down the bass, grab the guitar and start playing. I run my bass, with...

Two basses, one amp. What’s the best A/B pedal to switch between the two?

I think the Boss LS-2 would work for that. Also very good as a volume boost!

Why did you quit a band?

in what kind of gig does one wait hours after soundcheck to start? Almost all the gigs I do. Tomorrow sound check at 11:30am, we play from 4:50 till 6pm. That's over 5 hours of thumb twiddling. Last week sound check at 1pm, we played from 5-6pm. They're generally community events, so kids'...
