Double Bass Neutrik Variable Timbre Plug

Thanks! I’ve been recommending that someone try this in the Yamahiko thread for a few years now I think. I even went so far as to buy the plug and measure the capacitance levels, but I never got around to soldering to a cable. Also, I don’t have a Yamahiko, but I think it could be useful with...

    Double Bass Volume, Volume, Volume!

You keep it for all the other gigs! Also, sometimes a little bit of wet or dry makes a big difference. OP might get a great sound AND hear themself with a little bit of the wet signal mixed in.

    Double Bass Volume, Volume, Volume!

Don’t ditch the ToneDexter! Just turn the blend knob to get the dry pickup signal.

    Double Bass Volume, Volume, Volume!

I don’t think you need a new pickup. I dont know if the 10” Yamaha is enough for your band or not, but the rest of the rig sounds fine. I think it’s a matter EQ, dry/wet blend on the ToneDexter, and possibly speaker placement.

Double Bass FDeck and Red Eye - UPDATE

For those using the Red Eye or other Fire preamps in the signal chain but not as the first thing connected to the pickup(s), I would be extremely curious to hear a blind, level matched comparison. I am skeptical that it provides any significant improvement in that scenario. Granted it will still...

Double Bass FDeck and Red Eye - UPDATE

I think it’s legit. We don’t have details from Fire Eye as I’m sure they don’t want to give away their trade secrets, but we have plenty of testimonials here. I have the Bright Eye pedal myself, but I don’t really use it since I have a Tone Dexter. Piezos have a resonant frequency (i think i...

Double Bass FDeck and Red Eye - UPDATE

The idea behind the Fire Eye preamps is that they have a variable input impedance that should pair nicely with passive pickups. For that idea to make sense, it needs to be connected directly to the pickup. That said, the SLB300 has a built in preamp. Are you somehow bypassing it? If not, then I...

Double Bass Where Does Stuff Like This Come From?

I think these kind of offerings generally have more to do with what the teacher wants to teach (or thinks is marketable) than what students demand. Nothing wrong with that; many students don’t know what they need to learn.

Double Bass The EUB "makes it look like you're doing something you're not."

I don’t even understand the premise of the question. An EUB doesn’t look like a double bass, a bass guitar, or anything else. What do people think it looks like you’re doing? Looks like playing a big stick to me, which is exactly what you’re doing.

    Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

My cabs all have the original 8” eminence driver, which is not available. I’m hoping the TS parameters of the Ciare are close enough.

    Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

Mike never got back to me. I’ll try reaching out to Ciare next. I tried reaching out to US Speaker as well, but they didn’t respond. This is the speaker I suspect is the right one: https://www.usspeaker.com/ciare%20hsg200-44-1.htm

Double Bass QSC K10.2 vs Yamaha DXR10MkII

Yamaha’s website says the DXR mkII series is discontinued :( . Not sure what’s replaced them. Edit: there is a mk3 series now.

Double Bass AMT - Applied Microphone Technology Inc. - My Awful Experience

Oof. I think a few hours of lawyer time will cost more than a new mic, unfortunately.

Double Bass Yamaha SLB300 Pro vs SK model

The main advantage of ebony on an instrument like this is durability, imho. I agree no one else on the band stand or in the audience is going to notice or care about the difference, but the ebony might last decades without needing to be dressed. The rosewood could eventually develop low spots...
