Fender P in a jazz trio

This is the Pete Roth Trio featuring Bill Bruford. The bassist is Mike Pratt, not Guy Pratt. Love hearing Bill swing like this!

Double Bass Broke My Gut G String – Need Recommendations

I play a variety of styles on upright but mostly blues, jazz, country, and 50s rock, and I do use a bow sometimes. Actually, I don’t live far from a number of very good bass shops, but I just wanted to check with Talk Bass members first and get an idea of what’s out there.

Double Bass Broke My Gut G String – Need Recommendations

These gut strings have been on my bass for years. The G string broke when I wasn’t home too. Given the cost of strings, I think I’ll probably just replace the one. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Double Bass Broke My Gut G String – Need Recommendations

Hey everyone, I broke the gut G string on my upright bass and I'm on the hunt for a replacement. What do you all recommend? I'm open to suggestions for both single strings and full sets, especially if there's a good deal. Looking for something economical but still decent quality. Also, any...

    Can you identify these strings?

You must’ve really liked them. How long did you leave them on before they broke?

    Can you identify these strings?

Whoa, please forgive me, but I’m not familiar with your story. Could you fill me in on your history? What was your involvement with Fender?

    Can you identify these strings?

Thank you for sharing! What a worthwhile cause. The jewelry they’re making is so cool, too! I'm out on the road with my band, Say She She, for the next month, but when I get back home to Los Angeles, I'll definitely donate some of my old bass strings to them.

    Can you identify these strings?

Thanks, KF. Just found these strings in my mega box of old strings when I took the pics. I had just put them on my bass and hadn’t strung them to tension, set the intonation, or spacing yet. I was actually looking for a set of Rotosound RS66 LDN and stumbled upon these. I never found the...

    Can you identify these strings?

Hey, talkbass fam! Can anybody help identify these strings? They appear to be nickel round wound medium gauge bass strings with no silk on either end. The ball end colors are gold, red, silver, and teal. Thanks in advance!

    Famous Modified Basses

thanks for posting these! I've seen 'em many times but never enough. That's why I'm assuming Paul played it. Although, The Beatles Gear book quotes Paul as saying he used to play Stu's bass upside down. I've never found any mention of re-stringing it, unfortunately. "So I used to play Stu's...

    Famous Modified Basses

Stuart Sutcliffe's Hofner 500/5 had the nut and strings flipped around at some point. I'm assuming to accommodate a certain left-handed bassist.
