Double Bass Broke My Gut G String – Need Recommendations

I broke the gut G string on my upright bass and I'm on the hunt for a replacement. What do you all recommend? I'm open to suggestions for both single strings and full sets, especially if there's a good deal. Looking for something economical but still decent quality. Also, any recommendations on where to buy them would be greatly appreciated.

I have broken a plain gut G once. Actually it snapped at home while I was not playing. But that was after it had been on the bass for years. Did not stop me using gut strings. So I replaced it with a spare.
This was Ephrano gut string, which you can buy from their site. I like they come in three gauges, I used swach/light.
Currently I have Gamut on the bass. They are smoother polished, comes in even more gauges, but also pricier.

You haven't told us what kind of music you play. If you're not bowing, Lenzner or Efrano or Gotz will do fine. I'm not sure if La Bella has reintroduced guts, but those would be fine too.
If you're bowing, Gamut makes the best.
Unless you live near an amazing music store specializing in double basses, you'll probably have to buy online.

I think the guts from the slaps sets are available individually at Gollihur. Nice inexpensive string?

If it broke in the pegbox or underlength, you might be able to knot the ends together. Make them wet, knot, fasten a bit, let it dry and mount it again.
You might need to knot a piece of thin nylon line (2-3 mm) at either end to keep the unaffected part in the playing region.
At least worth a try or two.
Check if there are any sharp edges where it broke. If so gently round them so that the edge no longer cut into the string.

I play a variety of styles on upright but mostly blues, jazz, country, and 50s rock, and I do use a bow sometimes. Actually, I don’t live far from a number of very good bass shops, but I just wanted to check with Talk Bass members first and get an idea of what’s out there.

This; either the Priastro or Aquila… or a G from Efrano, Lenzner, Gotz, etc.
