Does it look like my bass needs a setup?

Learn how to and set it up yourself. You will never again have to ask if it needs one. Its not rocket science my bud.

Retiree back gigging after 9 years is lost in the amp wilderness. Help!

Hearing changes over time, and tinnitus is a factor also. (I am patiently waiting for someone clever to design and offer EQ and gain controls for my ever-present tinnitus.)

    Sweetwater Demo Basses

I bought a Kawai digital piano (ES920) that was a demo from Sweetwater. Good discount. Full warrantys from SW as well as Kawai. Great instrument.

    Longevity of a cheap bass.

My Squier Vintage Modified Precision is probably 30 years old? Sounds, looks, plays perfectly and gets a lot of gig work! I paid $100 used (mint). Great friggen work horse bass.

What do YOU look for when buying a bass.?

Would direct sun and heat change which bass you'd take to a gig?

Yes heat and sun can affect your neck relief. Enough sun can make the finish look crappy. I'd take a beater and keep to the shade.

    Should I change pickups?

From extensive experience I can tell you, your Squier Precision will be well improved by a perfect setup, medium gauge round wound strings and a pickup upgrade. The Seymour Duncan SPB-1 is a good choice, the Fender Original ('62) noticeably even better, in terms of tone, response to your touch...

Anyone who likes gigging NOT loud?

We are devoid of guitarists thankfully, so volume is well controlled and balanced among piano, bass, drums, horns and voices. I'm spoiled.

    What are your other obsessions?

Listening to and attempting to play piano. Aging is another ongoing obsession which I devote a lot of time to.
