Have any of you heard or owned of these ''rareish'' ibanez basses? (pics included)

I own a 1986-1987 Ibanez rb-999 and wanted to see if any others on talk bass have owned or played these rare funny looking basses haha. I got it from my dad who said he'd let me have it if i fixed it up. So, a little re-wiring and soldering and boom, she sings! I like the tone that the bass...

    Help with Mosrite bass Nut?

Hey tb'er, i have a question regarding my vintage Mosrite bass. Unfortunately i lost the string nut a while back and am starting to fix it up a bit cause its old and worn out badly. So I can't find the nut and I'm not sure where to find another nut that will work with the bass. it looked like it...

    How to strip a finish????

i think I'll figure out what kind of wood is underneath the finish before i do anything else but if I end up going through and removing it, i'll use a heat gun. I'll just have to be careful about scorching the wood

    How to strip a finish????

So I've been looking for a cheap fretless bass to mess around with in order to get used to fretless. I then realized that of the three basses I own, (all fretted) I only use two of them. The remaining bass, which is the first bass i bought, (blue ibanez gsr-200) hasn't been getting much use...

    De fretted!!

Well i had to lower the bridge for everystring now that the frets are gone. But she plays so smooth and has this tone that totally surprised me. She had the modern sounding steely ibanez tone before i changed to flatwounds and thats when i stopped playing her. Something about the tone didn't...

Learning By Ear - Where to Begin

The best way, in my opinion, is to play along with other musicians. Yep, good old fashioned jams. These help develop your ear tremendously because you have to listen carefully to the other instruments and at the same time, be able to find the correct root notes. As the others said, its not...

Should we learn by reading notes or playing by ear?

Yeah, like you said, it's best to learn both although if I had to have either skill, I'd choose to be able to play anything by ear. Mostly cause when I play, it's jamming out with bro's, not reading notes...

Anyone buy/sell basses for $$ reguarly?

I've considered doing just this. But as you said, you'd have to spend a lot of time to make good money. This is a good way however, to make some extra cash though. My problem is that i'd want to keep all the basses I buy instead of selling them again. ;)

It's funny to me-the gap in value between Peavey and Fender

I can see what you're saying here. There are probably a couple of reasons for the price gap, one being that Fenders are perceived as the best basses out there. I mean, Fenders make great basses but I personally think they're slightly overrated compared to less well known brands, such as Peavey...
