    Warmoth Korina Jazz PJ Completed

Terrific 20% off prices during the Warmoth 30th anniversary sale. If not for the sale, I probably wouldn't have the bass. It was just too tempting right around Christmas time. The Fromby's tung oil is not a true tung oil. It is a wipe-on varnish and acts like a thinned out varnish. I had...

    Warmoth Korina Jazz PJ Completed

I haven't kept exact figures on the total price, having purchased items locally and from 3 or 4 on-line venders, but I believe somewhere around $800 to $850. I was tempted to spend more on pickups (Nordstrands or Fralins), but after reviewing clips and speaking with others, stuck with Fender...

    Warmoth Korina Jazz PJ Completed

Yes, love the Warmoth neck, Jazz width but feels a bit like playing a neck that sits between a P and J in terms of size. Perfect for my hands. Went with Poly as an attempt at UV protection, to see if that might preserve the red coloring in the Padouk. The poly is a satin finish and the...

    Warmoth Korina Jazz PJ Completed

Thanks for the comments. In regard to strings, my favorite strings are nickel roundwounds: DR, D'addario, Fender. The bass is bright but I've been able to dial in the sound I prefer by turning the tone control back somewhere between 25 to 50% and adding a little bottom at the amp. Maybe...

Oh man, help me choose pickups!

I just installed a Fender Original P Bass (Same as '62, I believe) and a Dimarzio Model J and am very pleased with the outcome. Nicely priced as well.

    PJ Pickups Head Scratcher

Problem resolved. Discovered a bad solder connection. The Dimarzio Model J leads are now reversed and the pickups are in phase. I'm liking the PJ configuration. The Fender Original P and the Dimarzio Model J are very close in terms of ouput and match up quite well.

    PJ Pickups Head Scratcher

When I reversed the Model J wires I attached the green to the center post on the volume pot and connected the red to back of the pot for ground. I have not, however, gone pot to pot to pot with ground wire connections as the pots are all touching a grounded copper shield (rear route), which I...

    PJ Pickups Head Scratcher

I finished assembling a Warmoth PJ bass last night, installing a Fender Original P Bass pickup and a Dimarzio Model J, wired in the standard V-V-T configuration. When I plugged in and fired up the amp the bass produced some pleasing sounds until I turned both volumes to full on. "Ah, dang, the...
