First thoughts on a P bass from a Jazz guy

I'm sort of the same, but I have a P, a Rickenbacker 4001, a Fleabass, and an old Univox Hi-Flyer. I jump between them all regularly and somehow find myself amazed at how good the tone is every time I switch to a different bass.

The best bass overdrive artist/band,album,song either or or all?

JFK from Death From above 1979 Tim Commerford from Rage Against the Machine I will die happy if I ever find a way to emulate either one of their tones

Is a Rick worth the money?

I own 2 basses. One is my 2003 Fender American Standard P-Bass and the other is my 1978 Rickenbacker 4001. I have all of the sounds that I want just between these two basses and I honestly don't see myself getting another bass anytime soon.

    Picks?

I personally prefer to use Dunlop Ultex Sharp .73 picks because they're pretty much unbreakable and I think the sharper point gives a more aggressive sound.

    Heavy Basses?

I've heard from others that my rickenbacker 4001 seems heavier than normal. Pounds is Sounds

    Tried out a Stingray recently

I tried it in a Markbass combo first, but switched to a GK. Tried the same ones with other basses and the others sounded better. Maybe they were just old strings though, because it sounded really dead; plus having a reputation like the Stingray has, many people have probably played it.

    Tried out a Stingray recently

I guess it's just too different from what I normally play. I'm used to my P-bass and my Rickenbacker and the Stingray's neck felt too fat for me. I wasn't a fan of the tone either. I can make my basses growl, but the tone sounded kinda dead even compared to the Jag.

    Tried out a Stingray recently

I went to Guitar Center the other day and checked out the EBMM Stingray HH. I am disappoint. I've heard great stories about these basses and I wanted to try one. I also tried out the Squier Jaguar and compared them side by side and I honestly preferred the Jag. Does this seem odd to anyone or is...
