ESP LTD TL-4Z AND OTHER ACOUSTICS

Cool man, I like the idea of a 32” scale, my main bass is a 34”, however, I recently picked up a cheap acoustic that is 30” and now appreciate how nice playing a short scale is haha... Seems like 32” would be a nice compromise (as most music I play is tuned down, so not short scale friendly) not...

ESP LTD TL-4Z AND OTHER ACOUSTICS

Well, guess it’s nearly three years with no response now haha... I am also curious about this bass, so am interested in people’s thoughts / experiences with it. I’m guessing after three years you’ve either gotten over your interest in the bass, or own (have owned one) so can review with some...

How essential is a bass specific DI

Whoops, just realised this should be in recording gear & equipment

How essential is a bass specific DI

I’ve been reading a few reviews online and here regarding various DI units, tone hammer, sansamp, Mxr etc. Previously I’ve recorded directly into an interface, then EQ, compression etc. was done in Logic (mixed and mastered by our drummer who is also a guitarist). Should I be giving serious...

    Ibanez TMB600

Late to the party, but I’m also considering the TMB600, seems to having glowing reviews. Did you end up purchasing one? Any feedback to share? Reading so many people rave about G&L I have been swayed into thinking that for a little bit more a tribute bass maybe best bang for buck (although...

    Running two amps

I was able to use a POD with two outputs one practice, in a quest for distortion with great bottom end I ran a distortion sim to my amp and a clean to our bands PA. It’s sound decent, but certainly no better than some amps with a dedicated distortion channel.

    Most Suitable pickup configuration.

Hmmm, reading too many opinions had me thinking all sorts of things haha. Truth be told, if the Sub wasn’t having some issues I’d be happy enough to keep using it. It was a cheap bass, so it’s not really worth investing too much to repair or upgrade - so figure it’s a good excuse to upgrade.

    Most Suitable pickup configuration.

Looking at a new bass and keen on peoples experiences / thoughts. For a lack of a better description I play in a raw punk rock’n’roll band - quite thick, distorted guitars etc to contend with (I also play finger style). I currently play on a sterling sub and it generally cuts through ok. The...

    Are Simple/Traditional bassists just bitter?

Man, did this thread get old fast.... haha

    Are Simple/Traditional bassists just bitter?

I love watching technical / busy playing (any instrument) particularly when it works musically. One particular local band where I’m from do it so well, that at first glance it’s raw, alt/punk music, that’s what hits you, appropriately direct sounding songs - pay a little more attention and...

Upgrading Sterling SUB Ray4...any recommendations? Pickups or preamp or something else first?

Bit late to the party on this topic... I also have a Sterling Sub with some sound issues, but it's nice enough to play on. I gave some consideration to replacing the pick up & electronics etc, however, the cost to do so probably exceeds the price of the original bass. With that in mind am I...

Why did you start playing bass?

Unpopular answer, I wanted to learn guitar and thought bass would be an easier instrument to get up and going with... then I never really took to guitar

    another ‘not cutting through’ thread

Cosmetically rusty... but more so beat up as is in loose knobs, preamp sits loosely in the cavity etc. It’s done a good job over the last couple years though.

    another ‘not cutting through’ thread

Thanks for your advice, I’ll check out the HPF. Yeah, I can add an extra speaker, would a 2x10 add more punch than a 15? Will have a play around with guitar frequencies, in the past we’ve had good balance, but of late not so much. Edit: as a side note, my current bass is pretty beat up, so I...
