why we never auditioned any of the the girls from the church choir. I don' t know who said it, but the answer was: "No way! Have you seen them?"

the bass was my "other instrument" when i started playing it. 
i took up the bass instrument because of how easy it is to play and still get chicks.

I would argue that the really cute girl is the reason you play bass, and that’s a decent reason to do almost anything!
A really cute girl has been the motivating force behind most of the major accomplishments in my life, and I’ve accomplished a lot... 
It was for a gig with some friends. The bass player couldn't do it. So I used a bass one of the guys had to fill in. That was where it all began.

Unpopular answer, I wanted to learn guitar and thought bass would be an easier instrument to get up and going with... then I never really took to guitar
I picked up bass at either 19 or 20. I was initially a guitarist. There was a huge bassist shortage, which forced me to pick up bass vs. never getting bands off the ground.
I grew up with GNR as one of my favorite bands, and Duff was one of my favorite musicians. I started on guitar lessons when I was in Junior High, all through high school. In college, friends of mine needed a bassist for their band, and asked if I'd be willing to try it out. I did, and it stuck - I guess I'd always wanted to be a bassist, and have primarily played bass in most of the band projects I've been involved in.

Entertaining was a big part of it! (still is!)
I started playing with some guys in our local youthclub. There was a live blues jam every friday.
Learned to lay down the roots and to groove with a drummer.
Bought the "Killer" album (Iron Maiden) and after listening...
… I knew that the bass is it! I bought a cheapo P bass copy from my lawnmower money and started to practice.
Told my pa that the guys I planned to play with, would rather shoot a piano player than hire one.
He wanted me to learn the piano and had promised to pay my lessons.
9 months later I found my first amp under the christmas tree instead.
Of course my first band was not a heavy metal band. Everybody wanted to play a different style.
The only solution was to play originals (Post punk garage "Krautfunkrock")
It worked!
In my first band we were all 14 to 15 years old. Getting girls was meeting girls, hanging out
and talking to them without blushing.
We managed to audition a lot of background singers.
Some of them were cute, but none of them could really sing.
I remember our drummer' s father (we rehearsed in his basement) asking us,
why we never auditioned any of the the girls from the church choir.
I don' t know who said it, but the answer was: "No way! Have you seen them?"
You got to have priorities!
