Lane Poor Bass!! What the FFFFFUUUUUDGE???

I am loving it! My band has no backline amps and this sounds phenomenal through my SansAmp DI. I do almost no tweaking at the preamp because the balance and tone is so good. It plays like a dream, very fast and comfortable neck. I was surprised at how little time it took to adjust from my...

Lane Poor Bass!! What the FFFFFUUUUUDGE???

About twenty years ago I met Lane Poor and did some legal work for him. At that time I was a guitarist and had no idea what the Minima was about, other than appreciating the technology and design. Lane is a wonderful engineer, luthier and designer, but not a great businessman (think Steve Jobs...

Best DI to Play Live WITHOUT Amp?

And the winner is . . . the MXR-80. Clean, simple, full sound and built to pound nails. I have used it instead of the Behringer V-Amp on my band's last few gigs and we all love it. Last week we added 4 Bose B-1 bass bins (for a total of 8) + the Bose Packlite power amp to our sound system...

Hum problem with Warwick Rock Bass

I just noticed the same problem with my new Rockbass, but I am using a guitar cord to a Dunlop MXR-8, then an XLR mic cord out. I am guessing that the common denominator is the balanced connection (which is what distinguishes a speaker cable from a guitar cable, right?), but I'm wondering how...

Best DI to Play Live WITHOUT Amp?

That's a good point. Unlike a bass or even an amp, where that "I've got to have it" feeling overrides the budget concerns, I'm not feeling emotional about a preamp/stompbox/DI. $250 is about the ceiling for me, which takes the U5 out of consideration, but leaves a lot of room for SansAmp, MXR...

Best DI to Play Live WITHOUT Amp?

Thanks to all of you who weighed in on this. Some suggestions are too expensive, but I will lurk on EBay for a while until I can bottom fish an MXR or SansAmp.

Best DI to Play Live WITHOUT Amp?

I have adapted pretty happily to the in-ears -- since we don't have stage amps or floor monitors I can't play without them, anyway! While I admit to missing the visceral "thump" and noise-wash on stage, the sound clarity is superb and it is the aural health equivalent of quitting smoking...

Best DI to Play Live WITHOUT Amp?

I play bass (duh) in a 4 piece (Drums, guitar, bass, vocal) classic/current cover band. We use a fantastic Bose L1 sound system and in-ear monitors and no stage amps. Guitar sounds great through a Behringer V-Amp and I play through a Bass V-Amp Pro, both direct to the board. I grabbed the...

New Gallien Krueger MB 210 & MB 115

Now THAT is customer service. Just so it is clear, I am disappointed that I'm having a problem with something I had so eagerly anticipated, but don't want to be taken as dissing GK. Stuff happens. The amp is beautiful, light and (but for this bug) sounds swell. I'll get in touch with Brian...

New Gallien Krueger MB 210 & MB 115

The rattle is not coming from the grille. It is initially present almost like a "tap" when I hit the string, and seems to come from or behind the speakers. At higher volume it is a definite rattle. Doesn't matter if I back off the bass eq or boost (although it doesn't happen at less than...

New Gallien Krueger MB 210 & MB 115

Got the MB-210 today and sadly it has ridiculous rattle on low notes (Bb down to E). The noise seems to come most prominently as I pick (pluck? I use my fingers) the strings, but it is definitely there. Bummer.

New Gallien Krueger MB 210 & MB 115

Passing this on to those who struggle with equipment $$. The discussion here, lugging 150+ lbs of gear to gigs, and a test run got me jonesing for this amplifier big time. Finding it hard to justify $600 for an amp I figured I would have to wait a year for a used market to arise for the MB210...

Peavey Combo 300 High Volume Crackle

Thanks for the advice. I am not an electronics guy -- if I get into the guts of the amp will this all be clear to me (i.e., will I be able to tell where things are loose and/or connections need cleaning)?

Peavey Combo 300 High Volume Crackle

Running into the active p/u jack has helped. I think that the amp probably is "running out of steam;" the problem seems to be less severe when I have my 2x10 extension cab plugged in, which ups the output power and gives me some headroom. Maybe I just need to go for a larger amp (or smaller...

Peavey Combo 300 High Volume Crackle

Sorry it has taken me so long to thank you both for taking the time to give me some input. I will try the other input next time the problem arises. When I say that everything is dimed I mean that the post volume is at 10 and the pre volume around 5. I generally keep the EQ settings between 10...
