    Need 5 stringer PJ

Thanks! I looked at that but it is not a PJ and I think all SRs are 34" scale. Thanks again.

    Need 5 stringer PJ

Hi all, I have been looking for a 5 string, 35" scale P or PJ passive bass for a few years now and no one seems to make one. I would like to stay under a grand but could go a bit higher so custom is not going to work. I currently use a Spector with nylon tape wounds, electronics removed, for...

    Double bass simulator

I'm in a theatre pit that needs me to double on electric and upright, and I don't have the real estate to do it. And fun fact: the general audience won't care, or know the difference. Truth in the last sentence... why o why pontificate on exact tone... one post I remember from some time ago...

    B.B. King Heckled At Performance.

Ever since the 80's, when lots of jazz icons were aging and still touring, I have used a simple yardstick to gauge whether or not I should go see them. Are they good enough to be in the band that is backing them? I have great respect for any musician who has performed so well for so long...

    Long Train Running (short rant)

The key a song is played in does matter. It has to match whatever the composer whats to communicate with what instrumentation or words are used. Although more relevant in classical and large ensemble settings, it still has an effect in pop music. Yes, the singer has to not only be able to hit...

Stoner/Doom Bassists: 74 - A few of beebass' favorite things...

No offense, but it looks like a Big Twin from Bacefaced except that the port is on the starboard side.

How to cut through horn section?

The trumpet (Eb? - usually Bb) and trombone have their sound source in front of them, the tenor has it below. If the monitor is not loud enough for them, they will over blow causing their on-stage sound to be excessive. Your source is behind you and yes, when they start blowing, they compete...

    Last chance for flats

Have you tried Nylon Tape Wounds in place of the flats? They have similar tone characteristics as you probably know and not as many other issues. After attempting - struggling - to get "the sound" from two different brands of flats, I tried the tapes and have not used flats since - 2 years...

Chorus vs. Flanger, and what's good?

I was looking for a good chorus pedal about 6 months ago and ran up against most of the names in this thread. In discussing this with multiple pro bassist, one name was always mentioned that has not - me thinks - been mentioned here...EBS UniChorus which has Chorus, PM, and Flange, all analog...

Cant find low end in Theatre, with 18"

+1 on out of phase, but check it with the speaker wires you are using with the rig... I have seen speaker wires wired incorrectly so always "check the system," not just the component. Also, having performed on theater stages a bit, one other acoustic anomaly that was mentioned are stage dead...

Bergantino hd212 (or 2x112) with a tube amp?

I am of the same opinion. But then I played the big brother, the Max 9.2 and loved it... have one. I think it is the only amp that not only has two channels, SS and tube pre, but can blend AND EQ both channels separately. The tonal variations are large. This may need to be a separate...

What was your first amp (old guys only)

My first was a Univox 15W "amp" on top of a 15" bottom. I still have the bottom with a huge Peavey in it but the amp bit it many moons ago... I do not think it made it out of the 70's... it was replaced with a Sunn 200W and a 2 x 15 bottom that never quit. That rig kept up with two tube Fender...

    Maryland/DC Bassists Club!

Copied from an email sent to me: "I need a bass player for Little Shop of Horrors running weekends Sep 27 through Oct 26 at the Bowie Playhouse. We may add Thursdays Oct 17 and Oct 24 as well." You must to know how to read - I do not know what the pay is or the rehearsal schedule - the Bowie...

    Maryland/DC Bassists Club!

My first local gig, Saturday Night, August 24th at the Old Bowie Town Grille in Bowie, Maryland. The Market Street Big Band will play 8 till 11:30 or so, doing lots of the old standards from Glenn Miller, Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and others. We have a full big band, 5 saxes, 4...
