    I just switched to La Bella roundwounds on my Frankenstein Hofner Club VI, wow! They're way better than the Daddario sets. And I was worried they'd screw with the intonation, but it's spot on.

    Get daddario short scale 40-95 bass set and add the east from a daddario guitar set, try a .010 or .011 set.

    Check the width and see if the schaller 8 string bridge will fit if you're unhappy with the intonation comprise.

    Seeing Cheap Trick in '78.... Tom had his Hamer Quad, and that roaring octave string sound made a mark. One day around 1990, finally getting how Drop D works and being able to use it. I figured out Spoonman and a bunch of King's and Alice in Chains that week, and I still use it often.

    I wouldn't go digging out the body to put a bass pickup, they're just as bright as a guitar pickup. How about a hot strat pickup? Those seem to cut a bit of the highs. DiMarzio® BC-1TM | DiMarzio
