Yeah I think custom might be my only option. Even a wide bass vi bridge would be unsuitable because of the radius difference.

The tightest I've found with single bass bridges is 15mm which is quite a bit wider than what I'm going for. I've considered using single guitar bridges and machining the necessary components to fit bass strings but I'm worried the saddle adjustment throw would be insufficient

I also find that older strings seem to work better for the fuzz stuff. New strings are very bright compared to used ones.

Steve Harris is weird. Apparently his signature fender bass has a super chunky neck, which is the opposite of what most metal bassists tend to go for, as are flatwounds.

No I play Kalium strings for F#BEADG (174 on the low F#). They would definitely have the gauges you need and they sound great, but you might find their shipping rates expensive.

Also rotosound strings are stainless steel, which have a brighter sound. I'd advise switching to nickel strings. EQ is also very important.
