Hey guys, made a post for this in the doom thread but figured I'd try here too just to get some more opinions. I joined this doom band awhile ago and am enjoying it, though I find my 50-110 Roto 66's (stainless) don't really have as much tension as I'd like when tuned that low. Traditionally in all my bands I've used the stainless 66's in 45-105 tuned to E flat, so that is about what feels normal to me.
I was considering trying some flats, I've used the Ernie Balls before and hated them, but that was mostly due to the high tension when tuned up. I'd want a bit more cut than they offered though due to all the fuzz (on both guitar and bass), so I was thinking about giving the 77's or Steve Harris set a go. What do you guys think? Am I going to like it? They are expensive down here so I don't want to just put them on and then hate them! Other brands my local store stock include Ernie, D'Addario, Dunlop, GHS, Elixir and I'm not set on using flats, but do have a feeling that they may perhaps suit this band.
Thanks!
