Double Bass Tell me about your multiple bass collection. Pics a plus!

The electric upright started as a copy of a Van Zalinge Zbass (think early Sting Police music videos). I always liked the look of it. But it sounded horrible so now its been revised 4 times. It has kindof the same outline but now the entire top is free floating with 2 bassbars, and the neck...

    Double Bass Baggs Gigpro Problem

I had 1 go bad on me twice. Volume got staticy and then stopped working. I sent it in and they repaired it with a new vol pot I'm assuming. About a year later it started getting funky again and I had to just retire it. As much as I liked it I just couldn't risk using it anymore.

Double Bass Tell me about your multiple bass collection. Pics a plus!

I have a couple. Hopefully I can figure out how to post a pic. Main ones are my Juzek and my 1945 American standard. Others are 1/4 size Kay, a horribly beaten up NYC school district Juzek ( currently has the top off for major repair) a strunal (actually sold), and eastman ply that I bought at a...

    Double Bass Bow hair "bunching?"

I'm guessing the spreader wedge shrunk just enough for the hair to move to the center. If the hair is in good shape you might be able to have someone just fit a new spreader wedge in. During the winter, especially here on the east coast. the air gets very dry and can shrink the wedge just enough...

Double Bass German bow - Viennese frog?

I had a similar frog made by Yita off of ebay, as I saw they were making a knockoff Kolstein bow. I really like the feel of it. I swapped frogs with my chinese carbon fiber bow.

Double Bass Rehairing bows in the Mirecourt style

Yes, there can be a very huge difference in hair quality. Bad hair can be old, prone to breakage, have kinks, have irregular thickness, and more. Great rehairers go to great lengths to find the best quality hair and usually stick with their trusted supplier. On the upper end would be hair sold...

    Discreet but GOOD hearing protection?

I have custom molded plugs, earpeace plugs, and alpine plugs. I like the alpines best. They're the most comfortable for me, and i like having 3 filter choices.

    Double Bass Paul Chambers microphone

If that was at Rudys studio it is almost certainly a neumann, and it looks to me like theres a second mike, further down right below bridge level.

Double Bass Rehairing bows in the Mirecourt style

I learned from Lynn, and she teaches it beautifully. But having said that I switched to frog first. I think it's more consistent. Especially on bass bows because there is so much room for variance at the frog end. I seemed to have to guess alot more, taking into account the travel of the hair...

Double Bass Hearing protection for DB players

I've had have the molded earplugs for many years but the last 2 years i've been using the Alpine plugs (got them from musiciansfriend). They're super soft and have interchangable filters. i usually always have different filters in with the strong one towards the drummer. I got the ones with 3...
