Adding to the Genzler love, if you can find a used Genz Benz Shuttle or Streamliner, those are along the same vein and are fantastic amps. I use a Shuttle 6.2 with a 2x12 cab and it's perfect for just about any size venue. It also has the aux in and headphone out jacks (both 1/4").

I've used both Sunbeams and Nickel-wound lo-riders on my G&L L2500. I prefer the feel of the hex on the lo riders, but tonally, they both sound right at home on the G&L in that I'm able to get that buttery smooth lo-mid thump without too much eq manipulation. I've also tried Rotosound, Elixir...
