My buddy installed a blend knob on my Hudson Broadcast clone and it's a different (better) animal...big clean low end under the warm dirt now! Close enough to the sound I was after, I'm satisfied :thumbsup:

Time to resurrect this old thread :woot: does anyone know whether the Morch pickups in Mike's old Dragon Bass (87-97) were humbuckers or single coils? I always assumed they were humbuckers, I guess because Mike uses humbuckers now in his Modulus...but was listening today and now I'm wondering...

So... I sold my Fifth Gear and ended up buying a Hudson Broadcast clone that I found on eBay. I'm quite happy with the overdrive sound it gets! It's warm and breaks up pretty close to what I hoped for - and on the high gain setting, the breakup sustains for a good while rather than fizzling out...

Fifth Gear is up for sale if anyone's interested! It's a cool pedal but not quite the sound I'm looking for after messing around with it for a week.

Thanks donahue! And upconvert just means it's compatible with 24v, etc? Not that another component would be necessary to make it work with a 24v power supply?

To get the best sound out of the Broadcast, would a 24v AC/DC adaptor that goes straight to an outlet do the trick? Like this one from Electro-Harmonix...

Cool :cool: By low vs. high gain, do you mean just the lo/hi gain switch on the pedal, or also the volume level on the bass itself? I tend to keep my bass's volume knobs dimed - would this constitute the high gain that might cause too much compression? Also, in the absence of a 24v power...

Do you guys find that the Broadcast loses any low end? It's a bit hard to tell from YouTube demos, though it sounds pretty nice! I see that it has a low cut knob and lacks a clean/blend knob, which makes me think it's designed more for guitar, and raises some concern for low end loss. Thanks!

So I listened to demos of all the overdrives mentioned, and the closest one I could find to the sound I'm after seemed to be the Southampton Fifth Gear...and what do you know, but I find out a few nights ago that my guitarist had one lying around! I fell in love with it at first - it's pretty...

Yeah, I agree - after comparing the Darkglass to the other options mentioned here, I don't think it's the right one - just not as warm as the Blueberry, Fifth Gear, Beta, or Grizzly.

Does anyone know where to find a good sound clip of the ODB? Btw, is the Ol' Dirty Bass the same as ye Olde Dirty Bass, just with our Wu Tang friend portrayed on the pedal? I can't find a good demo for either.

Hey guys, here's a question: how would you say the Blueberry compares to the Fifth Gear? I recently posted a thread asking about which overdrive pedal would best help me approximate a Jack Cassidy-ish warm driven tone, and of the pedals recommended, these two are really standing out to me...but...

So after listening to demos of all your suggestions, I'm leaning towards the Fifth Gear, Pork Loin, or Bearfoot Blueberry. Just added the Blueberry to the poll, which isn't really fair to the Blueberry since it'll be behind...but better late than never! Might anyone be able to provide a...
