Yeah I’ve seen photos of the Blondie in both states. Classic Vibe might be the way. I don’t do woodworking so I’d have to farm that out. Totally worth considering though. Thanks
I’m on the hunt for a bass to use in a Billy Joel band like Doug Stegmeyer’s modded tele bass. Other than starting with a Mike Dirnt and routing/wiring up a second set of split coil pickups. Do I have other options?
I want to be visually accurate but more importantly sonically accurate...
This one popped up yesterday. Lake placid blue. Rare bird. Not mine https://reverb.com/item/83030796-fender-aerodyne-pj-lake-placid-blue?utm_source=rev-ios-app&utm_medium=ios-share&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=83030796
I think they mean the output jack.. if the control plate is metal, the jack is already grounded to the chain. I've gone back and forth on wiring the output jack for jazz/mustangs -- they don't HAVE to be grounded at the output jack.
Of course, if the jack is in the wood or on a plastic...
I've been doing a mustang p/j upgrade project to mimic a 'stang played by Jason Isbell's Bass player Anna Butterss.
That mustang (and mine now) are this config:
BASE Stock MIM Sonic Blue (white/white) Mustang P/J with Original Neck & Tuners
1. Replaced Nut with bone nut
2. Replaced Round...
Just looking at what's out there.. this is likely the best option for a CAR non-export Aerodyne Jazz

The bodies are the cheap part. The necks? Woah. Expensive and hard to find. I looked at parts until I located a whole Mustang P/J (got lucky one showed up in town). I’d build 3 more if I could.
The neck is a Huge selling point for me. It feels effortless. I own one of everything in my bass mob, jazz, precision, jaguar, mustang, and 5 string precision. Right now the Mustang neck is my favorite.
To be fair. I communicated with Anna Butterss and their bass tech (who did the build) I was simply following the parts list and hoping for the best. ;) they did all the picking.
