Double Bass Ed Fuqua's new book Walking Bassics

"Focus" is definitely the word. I'd been bouncing around through a shelve for of bass books, which have been put aside so I can focus on Ed's book. And I'm walkin'! Albeit with a mere handful of 'paths' but as one gets fluent add another and it starts adding up to some music. I'm happy.

Double Bass How long does it take to be decent?

My 13yo daughter took up the bass guitar and was playing a tune with the middle school jazz band within a few weeks. She did have piano background and converted her chart to tabs. I took it up at the same time and am patiently working on walking, scales, time, tone. It takes patience and...

Double Bass Ed Fuqua's new book Walking Bassics

Ed, I picked up Walking Bassics at Cascio's Interstate Music and thought, "Hey, this is a little thin." But what a wealth of information. Nicely organized and presented. Hip, straightforward lines. Very nice, indeed. It goes right to the top of the pile, and gives me hope. Thanks.

    Double Bass Diminished scales

Newbie solution: Putting the trichords on adjacent strings (124), seems to work for either diminished scale (WH or HW). (E.g., C D Eb/ F Gb Ab/ A B C)

Re: The Latin Bass Book, it's been helpful to play with clave and 'congas' in Garage Band (comes with a Mac), until tempo is up to the CD. All the tips on this thread have been great.

Double Bass Walking and soloing and practice.

Having been at bass an entire year or so, it seems that it's one thing to negotiate changes in a 'modular' kind of way, but quite another to develop a line that is musically coherent across the piece. At such a point, the difference betwixt walking and soloing seems moot. Q: At what point do I...

Double Bass playing along vs. across the strings

So I'm three years late to this thread. As one who has been self-taught and recent on BG (for practical considerations. Interest in jazz brings me to DB forum), this thread has been informative and reinforcing. Whether I start playing along or across, 1234 or 124, it seems that the bass line or...

Walk With Me [Part 1], by Mauro Battisti

This is as complete as any Walking Bass book I've got. Wonderfully concise. Thanks.
