NBD - Fender Justin Meldal-Johnsen Road Worn Mustang Bass

Had mine for a couple of weeks. Joins its' Road Worn brethren. Of the three the P is the lightest; and the J has a bit more versatility. But the Mustang is the easiest to play, coolest looking, and has the unbeatable Seymour Duncan split coil. IMHO, the Road Worns' play as good as any Fender...

Have you ever played someone's famous bass?

I have one of Tad Kinchla's (Blues Traveler) 5'ers. It's a Sandberg, heavy as hell, plays like a dream. One of the bands I play with include older sit down blues guys, and this is the perfect bass.

players who are ashamed of having "entry level" brand instruments...

Many musicians have said that you don't find the instrument, the instrument finds you. Lots of truth there. If your bass sounds and feels good in your hands, it gives you confidence, and you play better. Most veterans I run into either still have their bargain basement axe, or wish they had...

good bassists always in demand, but few good bands need bassists

I've done 20 years with weekend warriors as a drummer, 20 years of absolutely nothing, and the last 6 playing 90% bass. I agree with most of the above. Joining a particular style of band means playing what that crowd wants, because that's why you get paid. The challenge is working through...

I Figured Out How To Upgrade Tuners on Hofner CT Club Bass!

I also had quality issues with my original CT Club Bass tuners. And after finding this thread, I also purchased some Grover Sta-Tite's. Unlike pstone-foo, the replacement bushings on mine were a bit tight , requiring the slightest bit of filing. Work done and installed in about 30 minutes...

Do all cabs feel like a compromise?

Another plus for the MB. I gig a Jeff Berlin 151 combo, and add on an additional New York 15" cab when needed.

What's your favorite bass cab and why?

Markbass 151 Berlin Combo (300W), with additional MB 15 NY cab (500W) when needed. Great sound, small, light weight, and works for every venue I play. Sounds good as a plug\play, or with a tiny board; pre-amp/compressor/chorus. Great sound, and easy on the back.

Working bassists who have quit drinking

I used to play the drums all drunked up. No excuses. But as a bass player, and getting older, I can't make my fingers work after a couple of beers. So, I just don't drink when I play because my skills turn to sh!t......

    Different Pickguard Changes Tone

I didn't read every page, but if this didn't come up yet, you guys may be under-estimating the difference in the color\weight of the pickguard screws themselves. Switching out the silver screws holding a black pickguard to black screws with black pickguard made them almost invisible, and the...
