    Is This Circuit Board Corroded?

It's flux residue that wasn't completely cleaned. 91% Iso with an old toothbrush will remove it as was stated above. Just keep power off of the pedal for about an hour to be sure all of the water to evaporate. If you use a tech grade of 99% Iso you can power up after a few mins. -Frank

What do we think of rechargeable power supplies?

Age, use and heat will reduce capacity of rechargeable Lithium batteries. To reduce this capacity lose, when storing a battery for long periods of time, you should drain the battery to approx 40% of full charge and put it in an airtight bag (removing as much air possible). Manufacturers usually...

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

The two main measurements used will be peak or RMS for AC signals. Most DVM's use RMS measurements when measuring AC signals. Very expensive DVM's will have a very wide freq bandwidth, where a Walmart DVM is only fairly accurate for a narrower (general purpose) bandwidth. So the test...

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

Thanks Jimmy, but you are giving me too much credit. I am obsessed with numbers, especially when you have many musicians playing a comp that have wildly opposing views on how the comp performs. Then the numbers make more sense to me for understanding "why" they have the opinions that they...

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

You put it on the bench with test equipment hooked to it. I did the same with the Diamond comp a while back and posted the results on TB. -Frank

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

I usually suggest to people that are new with compression to research what they might be looking for in a compressor and then ask any questions they might have. It is always better if someone has tried our pedals and then asks questions, otherwise describing features or parameters sometimes...

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

You forgot to mention that multi-band compression can have different ratio slopes within the different freq bands and that where the freq bands crossover the ratios are a mix of ratios dependent upon the signals with the largest amplitude of the signals within those freq bands of compression if...

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

Yep, power is a different equation. Thanks... I'll correct my post. -Frank

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

Yes, but there are variable compression ratios around a soft-knee that makes the ratio data a bit more difficult to explain due to the changing ratios within that knee. Usually in this scenario you can use the maximum slope as a description. A simple way to state this would be like... the soft...

    Question regarding pedal manufacturer

Yes, exactly. The dB unit is a relative amplitude size of the output with comparison to the reference input signal. If you were to have a -6dB measurement means that the output has one half of the signal amplitude of the input. If you were to have a 6dB gain means that the output signal is...

[I consider it CLOSED] FEA DE-CL problems: insist or resign? .......

Marco, What comment or reply could I have made on your clips that would have made any difference to the dissatisfaction that you have? You told me that you wouldn't return the pedal for a refund, so how can I possibly resolve your situation? -Frank

[I consider it CLOSED] FEA DE-CL problems: insist or resign? .......

There is really nothing to respond to. Marco contacted me last week with his issue of when he gets the low freq compression dialed in the highs don’t have enough compression and when he dials in the compression for the higher freqs the lows are overly compressed. He was looking for a solution...

    Issues with Catalinbread pedal co.

Circuit patents are granted all of the time. Some builders have patented circuits and methods that have been common knowledge for years. Those patents may not withstand a legal challenge tho. -Frank

Testing Compressors: Cali, Smoothie, Empress, Diamond, Keeley, FEA, Darkglass, Doc Lloyd, Lusithand & more

For analog compressors- If the manufacturer does not specify the criteria for their specified attack and release times, then most likely, they use RC time constant values that the attack and release pots generate with their charge capacitors. An RC time constant is called Tau (t=RC). One Tau...
